Maytag Commercial +/- 20 years old

Local multifamily housing with several of these in their laundromats. Guessing over 20 years old since looks old school and has push buttons. But not sure if high efficiency and energy star was a thing 20 plus years ago. Enjoying the forums and hope this is of interest to other folks.

Some folks selling Neptunes. I'd be tempted to make an offer on one of the washers but they're asking a lot and I don't have the room. Would make a great large bulky load machine with my top loader doing daily duty.

How are parts availability and ease of repair on these? Know they had a few issues.

Commercial Neptune FL Washer

Were very repairable machines, capacity while better than a TL washer was not great, so you will not be washing king size comforters in it.

A Speed Queen FL washer is about the best Heavy Duty machine that can easily be used in a home.

The 2018 machines are also a great choice, they are still building and selling them and I think they may reconsider consumer sales as the sales of the new TL washers start to tank this year.

 

In any event SQ will still be building and selling this great machine through the commercial channels with either the Unimac or SQ names on them.

 

However if anyone wants a SQ FL machine they should buy it now, I have long maintained that this washer is a great buy at the 1,500.00 price level. You can easily spend this kind of money on an LG, Samsung, WP, MT, GE or Frigidaire FL washer and a SQ FL machine can easily outlast at least 2 or 3 of these cheaply built machines. These popular brands of FL washer are nearly 50% plastic whereas a SQ FL machine is only about 10% plastic with plastic only used where it should be used.

2017 and prior is probably more important for SQ TL. FL commercial is the bread and butter of SQ/ Alliance so those should always be around. Besides well-known design flaws looks like Neptunes on the small side for FL at 2.9 to 3.3 cu ft and some as small as 2.4 so no large loads is right. Now you can buy TL over 6 cu ft which is crazy.
A friend lives in the multifamily where I took the photo. They are 500 or so units and lots of laundry rooms with the Neptunes. Amazing they've kept them running and you'd wonder if it would have been cheaper to replace them by now. It's a 1970's era low rise mix of two and three stories with pipes/ plumbing that doesn't support in unit laundry. And still has plenty of leaks and floods even without in-unit laundry. They joys of the overhead neighbors plumping leak dripping from your ceiling overhead.[this post was last edited: 1/20/2018-12:10]
