I have a Maytag de 606 dryer the motor runs but the drum will not turn. If you depress the door switch, push in the control button and manually spin the drum it will run. What do I need to fix or replace to get it to run normal again? Also if you just push in the control button, it will hum and then quit. Thanks

I fixed a DE808 that had the same problem and discovered burned contacts in the start switch. Filed the contacts down and she was back to normal operation. Worth a try.

WOW DAN!!

This model has the expensive 3-2528 switch like the DE806 right? Please take me to school sir!!

The 606 dryers were similar in features to the TOL DE806 but the 606 dryers did not have the backlit panel and only has a single pilot light above the cycle selector.

Dig some digging and came up with some interesting results I never payed attention to:

Start Switch Part#'s for 302278 Motor (HOH)

303877
303879
306208

Start Switch Part#'s for 303358 Motor (SOH)

303877
303879
306207

2 out of the 3 part#'s match perfectly for both motors so they're most likely compatible. It's still worth cracking the start switch open and checking contacts.

If all else fails, there's a couple of new motors available on eBay for a good price. These motors went for almost $300 right before Whirlpool obsoleted them.

Oil both ends of the motor. Any motor oil laying around will at least help. If it runs when you spin the drum, then it is just in need of a little love. Use a dropper or something to put some oil where it spins on both ends, and work it in by moving the belt. Be sure not to get oil on the pulley. I did this to my 70's maytag dryer months ago when it was completely locked up. Still running just fine. No need to throw parts at something to make it work.
