Maytag Dependable Care Dryer MDE8426AAW

Hi Guys,

We've aquired a Maytag dependable care dryer, 3 heat settings, timed and auto dry for regular and PP.

The machine was absolutely choked with fluff, and I've found 2 SIM cards, $1.50 in coins, and a key that has cracked the plastic blower fan.

I've got the front right off, with just the structural support that holds the drum in place attached.

When I start the dryer, the motor is growley and then cuts out after about 5 seconds. After 5 minutes it seems to cool down, you can hear a thermostat click and then it will start again.

Before I waste my time tearing right into the machine, does anyone else think its likely to be the start switch on the motor, and if it is, can it be lubed and serviced. Is motor bearing failure a common issue with these dryers?

I look forward to any info you can provide.

This model/time period was known for motor failures. You can/should remove the tumbler front, look in the blower and blower housing and just make sure there is nothing holding or blocking it. With all the other goodies you found it wouldnt surprise me. lol

Nothing in the fan

The cutout is happening with the fan assembley removed.

I also made sure I'm testing using airfluff, rather than an heated cycle, so its not the element overheating due to lack of airflow.

I'll get pricing on parts today, however Maytag in Australia has traditionally been as expensive as Miele for parts.

One other question, where is the electronic moisture sensor? There is a highly complicated multi temp thermostat in the blower housing, and a plastic bar thing, but none of the metal one usually associates with an electronic dryness control dryer.

This model does not have moisture sensors. That complicated t-stat is the operating t-stat. The 2 smaller wires on the top of it are the heater. The other ones feed the heater and timer. The heater on the t-stat coms on when you select delicate. Its heat helps the t-stat stay hot so the dryer runs cooler for delicate.

The motor is not the cheapest part, thats for sure. I beleive its about $160 here in the US, im not sure what that translates to in your money.
