Hi all,

Have a Maytag Dg 808. It's started throwing the breaker. Took it apart today to see what was going on, and if it's on air dry it runs fine. If I start the machine on air dry and move it to regular or permanent press it keeps running but does not heat up-- the igniter doesn't glow, the gas doesn't click on. If I start the machine on regular or permanent press it immediately throws the breaker. If I turn the gas off, start the machine on regular or permanent press it still throws the breaker.

No visible damage or indications of where the problem is.

This is a beloved machine of mine that I inherited from an old woman that lived in my turn-of-the-century house before me. I've worked on it for the last 14 years ago and not encountered a problem like this or adjacent to this.

Any ideas of what is going on here?

Update: In case anyone uses this thread for research, the issue ended up being the igniter clip that the glow plug fits into. Part of one side of the clip was melted and the inside of the clip showed metal fatigue. That was causing sparks to be thrown as the glow plug heated up. It was throwing the breaker before I could observe it was happening, and even when it was happening it was so very brief it was difficult to observe. I ended up switching out the whole igniter system for a flat style that I had on hand. The cord length of the new flat towel igniter has to at least be five and a half inches or you'll be in trouble. But other than that and the screw that holds the igniter in place, so far so good.
