Hello,

I have a DG806 dryer that will not keep the pilot on. If I play with it long enough I can get the pilot to stay on. Once it's on the dry seems to be working normal. I have caught the dryer running on for way to long a couple times. But I don't know whether the run on is a problem or it's just doing that because the pilot went out and not heating the dryer to temp.

Any help would be great! Also a source for parts as it seems lots of these parts are hard to find. I hoping to keep the dryer working because its a GREAT dryer when working.

Thanks again for any help.

Pilot Light Won't Stay On

This is a very common problem with standing pilot dryers as they age. Either the pilot safety is bad or if you are very lucky out of adjustment. But usually you need a part and I would almost bet without looking that it is  NLA. If you want to try to fix this you either need the service manual or find an older repair person that remembers how these work and knows how how to fix them safely, Good Luck.

I have the service manual if scans of those pages would be helpful. However, unless you are quite familiar working with natural gas plumbing and equipment I would advise against attempting this repair yourself.

If I recall correctly, John (combo52) has done this several times too.

Perhaps he or Rick can chime in on what parts they used.

It's a little fuzzy in my mind right now, but I think he mentioned using the burner and ignition assembly from a later Stream-of-Heat dryer and then he throttled back the output to 18,000 BTUs to match the output of the original burner. You also have the added safety advantage of a two-solenoid gas valve as well as much greater availability of parts.

I had the burner out of my DG806 last summer to clean it and inspect it and I really don't see any easy way to convert it to electric ignition.

Pilot Light Won't Stay On

Yes Rickr and I have done this, but I would not recommend someone try this that not had a lot of experience working on gas appliances. I did use the burner assembly from a SOH MT dryer and changed the main office to 18,000 BTUs. The HOH gas dryer was pretty marginal design in the first place and I probably should have gone down to 14.000 or 16,000 BTUs for greater safety.
