Maytag Dryer LDG9304AAE - Blower

My Maytag Dependable Care dryer is starting to rumble slightly. Once before this happened and I had a repair guy come out and replace the blower wheel. I can get it for $20.00, (see the link). What I'm curious about to know, is how easy is it to replace this myself? Has anyone had to do this? I like my dryer and don't want to replace it.

I certainly don't want to replace the machine if I don't have to, since I'm still considering purchasing one of the remaining Dependable Care washers to replace my new Whirlpool TL which I'm still frustrated with!

I don't think it should be too hard. If I understand correctly, the Dependable Care machines are similar to centre-dial Maytags, with some stuff changed and updated a little bit (somebody correct me if I'm wrong!).

For centre-dial machines, you take off the front (two screws 4-1/2 inches from the bottom, semi-hidden in the toe kick), then remove the lint filter housing. The blower wheel is behind that, down at the bottom left. There's a felt seal on the blower intake; you'll need to be careful with it. Then there's the blower.

On my centre-dial machine, I'd be very comfy tackling the job. Hope yours is the same. One question for you, though- is your dryer level? Makes a big difference on noise with these machines, I've found. If the dryer hasn't been levelled in a while, might be worth doing it, just to see if that stops the problem. If you do, be sure to set the lock nuts on the levelling legs. The legs screw in and out in the usual way, but the nut that's on the shaft is intended to be screwed up tight against the bottom of the cabinet. If this is not done, the leg will screw itself in or out with the vibration of the cabinet, and the dryer won't be level any more.

Great Idea

I'm pretty sure it's level, and unless there's clothing with buttons and stuff inside, it runs very very quietly. I also held the button and started it to see if I could feel how strong intake was from the filter and it felt a little weaker than I expected so I suspect that maybe the blower wheel might be slipping. Nonetheless I'll locate my level and check it out. I hope it is level because it seems I've not had good success trying to level that darn Whirlpool washer!

I wish Maytag would have fixed this common problem with these - I guess they did in a sense...

It's not a difficult repair at all, if you're handy with tools, you'll do fine.

Common Problem

Yeah, if I recall correctly, the repair guy who replaced the whell last time mentioned something about changes Maytag made to the wheel and not they go out every five years or so. It's only $20.20 so perhaps I'll buy it and have a go at it!
