Maytag Gas Dryer GDG606 Heating Problem

We have Maytag gas dryer and I'm about to throw my hands up in the air. Hopefully, all of you might have some advice. Our dryer stopped heating.

Because the ignitor wasn't getting hot, I replaced it to no avail. Sears Parts chat then told me to replace the thermostat 3-03391 which did not solve the problem either. My neighbor tested the radiant sensor with an ohm meter and said it still seems functional. I can't find a fuse listed anywhere that could cause the problem.

Some of have mentioned the coils. We replaced those years ago but I don't think that is the problem since the coils control the gas valve and the ignitor has to be hot before the valve is even engaged.

The location of the dryer makes it hard to remove plus we still have the 608 matching washer--it would be sad to break up the set.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Is there a relay in there somewhere? My gas dryer has a definite click, then the ignitor begins to glow, and then the gas valve opens. Mother's does the same thing.

I'm not sure about a relay and I don't recall a click. Usually, once the machine started, the thing would begin to glow within a minute. Of course, there was the whoosh as the gas valve opens and the flame ignites. I'll check around though.

Is the magnetic switch in the motor engaging? IIRC, that needs to be engaged, before the ignitor will light. If the drum is spinning, the magnetic switch "should" be engaged. If it's not, the ignitor and gas valves will not function.

Oh, the dryer tumbles clothes just fine. When it broke, the thing ran for over 90 mins before I checked on it and noticed that there was no heat. So, I'd assume that the switch you mentioned is engaged.

I doubt if this is related but I'll throw it out there: Years ago, the dryer stopped shutting off when using the Regular dry setting. It would ring once and just tumble forever. Instead of calling a serviceman, I noticed that the dryer still worked normally on the Permanent Press setting where it rings until it shuts off. It has been like this for maybe 20 years now but maybe something else with the electronic control let go?

Non-Heating MT DG608 Dryer

If you are hearing the click [ the sound is one of the two gas valves opening ] and you are seeing the ignitior heat the problem is in the gas burner area and NOWHERE else.

If the ignitior stays on and does not cycle off in a minute or so you have a bad flame sensor.

If the ignitor shuts off in a minute or two you have bad valve coils or a bad gas valve it self.

The ignitor doesn't come on at all. So, I can't even get to the gas valve opening up yet.

Will it fire on any heat/cycle setting? If not, see if you have voltage out of the timer. the symptom you described above sounds like a bad timer.

No heat on any cycle. This model really has no timer. It just has an electronic control you turn to Regular, Perm Press, Damp Dry, or Air Fluff. Then, there are buttons to press for the temperature and dryness. So if that is bad...ughhhh.
