"I think we ought to to seriously think about manufacturing after-market parts to original factory specs. There's a fortune to be made."

That's why I have been buying extra pieces for every part I need on the tags, especially the hard to find NLA stuff. A nice NOS piece to copy from makes for accurate future replicas :)

Replication could be profitable if we could conjure up a few members who're machinist/designers.

well, we need some captial, otherwise the labor-work is useless ;-) I can only imagine how much it put back Mark H to have the molds done up for the Kelvinator top boot.

I was reading an article in Popular Mechanics magazine about this machine that copies parts "exactly".

Apparently Jay Leno used it with great success in manufacturing antique-automobile engine parts that are NLA.

IIRC it x-rays/scans the part and notes thousands of dimensions, somehow creating a mold of the wanted part.
There are some limitations but I beleve it works with plastics and metals, and will only work with (orignial) parts made of one material.

This should be the video.........

(the internet connection speed here in my office sucks!)
This should be the same video I saw a couple months ago about this 3D scanner and 3D printer, which was VERY interesting!

So for about $25 per person (based on the number of members profiles) we here at AW/org can have one of these at our disposal!

This could be used to re-engineer the oil and water bellows for Frigidaires, as well as seals, bearings, and a host of other NLA parts. It could be a good investment!
