Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Feature-wise, these looked like very nice top load washers: Finger Faucet, ATC and non-ATC temps, many different speed combinations, stainless tub, spin drain... Shame about the built quality. The manual for the MAV 9750 actually says one must not soak for more than 30 minutes (maybe because of the tub seal?). Also, the Pre Wash setting gives 33 minutes (!) of agitation. Sounds like a bit much.

Maytag had other interestingproducts at that time like the 3rd rack dishwasher.

It wasn't so much the MAV and PAV model washers

that had issues with the tub seals, it was usually the SAV and NAV models that have poor compatibility with that particular tub seal and bearing design. I notice that its usually the Maytag washers that do have the stainless steel tubs that the bearings and tub seals tend to go in. I have a plastic tub norgetag model and the bearings are still running smooth after almost 8 years of heavy use but if I had gotten a model with the stainless steel tub they would have probably failed a few years ago. Unfortunately the Atlantis (MAV) and Performa (PAV) models have a tendency to snap the clutch/pinion gear arms in the transmission and by the clunking noises coming out of mine it seems the transmission will need to be replaced anytime soon. I have always gotten good performance from this washer so of course I will be fixing it when the transmission goes out to keep it running.

I have a PAV5157 (and matching dryer) given to me by a relative.  11 years old.  The washer had a problem that I feared was the tranny gone bad but proved to be a simple pump replacement.  The pair was housed indoors and had relatively light usage.  The washer had some heavy rusting under the top at the fill flume, otherwise is in nice condition.

Nice litereture ...I have that one.
I sold the two tone Amanna which is kinda retro looking.
Looks like a Speed Queen but the insides have plastic parts compared
to all metal .
The fun thing about the front loaders is that
you can set it to see the rpms when washing and spinning.

No but...

I have read reviews on the models with the electronic controls and i remember a few people saying that the control board broke after a year or less of use. Their were similar electronic control models (not listed in these brochures for some reason)when I went to buy my Maytag MAV2757AWW washer in December of 2005 and i thought about purchasing the one with all the electronics but I didn't want that...I wanted a washer that you could customize to any cycle you wanted and if it needed to spin out again all I have to do is turn the dial around and turn it on, im sure it was much more complicated to do simple things like that on those models. I figure the less features, the better the reliability. And with a herrin washer your gonna need it.
