Maytag Neptune Control Boards (versions?)

Over the years there have been several different part numbers for the control boards on the early Neptunes.  Part numbers like 22002988, 22002334 and 22002365 look like they are all interchangable.  I have an MHA3000AWW.  When I call the parts store to get a price for a control board, they tell me they need the serial number of the machine to determine the correct part.  That is not at all reassuring because just about every other part has been changed (often upgraded) in that machine over the years and I would think that the serial number would be meaningless at this point.  Does anybody know the difference between the various revisions of this board?

might depend on what motor/motor control is in the neptune-my neptune,MAH 3000 from
1998 has the emerson"switched reluctance"(with the UFO liftoff spin runup sound)
and emerson motor controller.I have heard of some early neptunes updated with a
later style motor-inverter driven induction i think.

I was wondering about that.  But on the other hand, the updated inverter controlled induction motor came with a whole new motor control board too.  I don't know whether this necessitated an updated main control board too.  This is where my problem is with this...  My machine came with a switched reluctance motor too but was later updated to the new type.  If a parts guy looks up my serial number, all that would tell him is that my machine came with a switched reluctance motor.  If the part depends on that, he would sell me the wrong part...

Updating the motor and board did not require changing the machine control. The serial number is important on the 3000's as the first ones (series 17? Or earlier) requires a kit that changes a neon indicator and adds a wire @ the board harness in addition to the new board. Machines after this series break had the change already and therefor only needed the board w/o extras. Of course, the boards differed between the 3000 & 4000 series due to the addition of the recirculate pump and stain cycle option on the console, among other things...

You cannot purchase a new old style motor or control board (barring eBay or someone with a dusty box on a shelf...). Order either and it will automatically sub to the upgrade kit. If you already have had the upgrade done, then you can get the NEW style motor or motor control individually to repair any issues from that point on. I converted both my MAH4000 and MAH7500 to the new style motor and control and have not looked back. Quieter, does a little bit better on speed control (IMHO) and the board is put together like it should have been in the first place. No ac to dc conversion, the heat sinks for the components could cool my turbodiesel, and the additional line filter.

Thanks RCD.  My machine had a new control board installed when it was about two years old, then again at 3 years...  So I am guessing that the modification had to have been made already.  My current board is fine, I just want to play around with trying to "Beef up" one of these boards with higher voltage/current triacs, replace all the electrolytics with 105 deg long life caps, determine if an onboard inline fuse can be installed in the wax motor door circuit and replace R11 with a ceramic 1 Watt resistor.  Basically build a "super board".
