One of the drum baffles was loose so I took it off to see what was under there. Wow!..lint balls anyone? I've never seen a lint ball before. I have'em in small, medium and large.

If I hadn't already seen the dryer working, I would have guessed it to have been toast looking at the inner workings of it.

I had the same model as your's and it needed the same cleaning when I got it,but mine had a locked up motor when I got it so it had to be torn down anyway,so if you still have it apart I would check the grease in the motor bearings, the end caps pop right off,the grease in mine had dried up,I just repacked it with wheel bearing grease and it was good as new.
One hell of a mess in that dryer

My project was Nov-Dec 2006. Wasn't as filthy as yours. I disassembled to an empty cabinet (didn't pull the rear bulkhead). Washed everything in detergent/water, including the heating element (but not the motor, switches & thermostats, of course). Replaced the destroyed parts. She's paired at the house next door with an MAH6500 (bought new a year later before they disappeared).
I did find lint balls in the drum baffles.

I'm shocked that it didn't go up in flames. That is an expensive dryer, I just don't understand how can spend that much money on something, and let it end up this way.

You'd be surprised. This dryer looks like the average dryer I take apart. It's no worse than most. Fabric produces lint. People do not take their dryers apart like they should to clean them. Now, there are some dryers that get way worse than this. Being a sales & service provider I can't name the name because it may get me in trouble if someone from "corporate" would read this post. Thou shall not make disparaging remakes about our product. Yada yada yada. We call this certain dryer a "lint pig" because every single one I take apart to redo to resell is loaded, I mean LOADED, with lint.

I agree, Todd. That dryer looks almost like a walk in the park compared to some I've seen in the field. I like the ones that are so packed, the level of the lint is such that you cannot see the motor and the like. So bad that the lint is actually pressing against the bottom of the drum like some kind of sick, demented support pad... How the dryer didn't combust is beyond me. By the way, how about the dryers where you find intact ammunition inside the dryer cavity, right next to the heat source? Talk about the end of cycle signal from hell!

Yeah, RCD, finding ammo always astounds me. I've found numerous .22 shells up to 30-odd6. I always check my pockets after going shooting. I can't imagine leaving something like this to go into a dryer.

can you tell from this blurry picture what model the washer is? pref the one with the heater? the seller doesn't know and the machines aren't near by.
That picture isn't large/clear enough. There's one button difference between 5500 (no heater) and 6500 (with heater).
