Maytag Neptune MH7500

Hello all.
I have just bought off eBay the above washing machine. I am currently using a Whirlpool Ultimate Care top loader and am toying with the idea of using the Maytag to replace it. Opinions and discussion on pros and cons welcome please

Sounds like the one. Awaiting delivery of it. I am hoping it will be towards the end of this week. I was reading the manual for it on the Maytag website, it certainly seems to be versatile with all those features.

So, do you think I should swap the Maytag for the Whirlpool top loader?

Well, all repaired and installed in place of the Whirlpool Top Loader.

I have run about 5 loads through so far and am not feeling the love for the Maytag. It takes a very long time to do a wash (134 mins for a 40oC cottons wash). I cannot find how to adjust wash time in the menu as per instruction book. The machine also seems not to take any hot water,even on a hot wash.

Has anyone got a Neptune? If so, what do you think of yours?

I am thinking perhaps I might change back to the Whirlpool.

Yes it is an MAH7500 and the screens are as you posted. Thank you

It does also seem to have an in line transformer in the power lead that runs exceptionally hot which does concern me.

I had one of those in AU and the reason the cycle times are so long is because the heater is only 1200watts the same as the US models.

On mine it would fill with hot and cold, but generally more cold than hot. On the short cycle of about 70 minutes, I could never get it up to 60 deg's C before the wash timed out. I always assumed that's why the normal length cycle was so long to ensure that the water would actually get up to Temp.

You'll find if you need parts, they cost an absolute fortune. Over here a new Door Lock and Element combined, cost me $500. After that spend when the RPS on the motor failed, I decided to give up. It now sits with Leon over here waiting for his interest/time to resurrect.

I bought one of the Last Duet's that were available in AU and find it to be a far better washer than the Neptune, if not as oddly engineered and interesting.

The parts list for the 7550 says "HEATER, 230 V, 2050 WATT". Hmmm...

If it has the line transformer on mine the entire machine runs at 110v.

There were no 240v components inside my machine after the transformer.

Thanks for all your help everyone. Machine is up and running fine and doing at least 3 loads a day.

However, it does worry me about that transformer runs so hot while the machine is heating and the time it takes. I can get two loads done in the Miele in the same time lol.

Anyway, I have decided to move the Maytag Neptune on and put the Whirlpool back in. If anyone is interested in buying the Maytag then give me a yell

What you've got ahold of there

Is an American washing machine that was tweaked (not by much) for the European market.

First unlike many European/UK washers this Neptune only has about 1500 watts total heating power. When you couple the load size (larger than standard 5kg), amounts of water and possibly cold fill, yeah you are going to have long cycle times. More so if the machine is programmed not to advance timer until desired temps are reached. That and or use of certain cycles that naturally prolong time.

While Neptune washers were advertised here in the States as having water heating capability , again at only 1500 watts it takes some time. However keeping the heating wattage "low" allowed for machine to plug into a standard 120v American power outlet.

About that transformer; it is natural and quite normal for it to feel warm or even somewhat hot under long continuous loads. Again you are putting a lot of work on those rather puny heaters if they are called upon anything more than to boost warm (40C) water to hot (50C). Going from cold to 50C or 60C is also going to be hard work for that machine.

Mayhaps try doing a cold prewash then filling with hot or at least warm water then letting the machine heat from there. That could take some of the work off the heaters/machine.

Hi Laundress.
I have tried many things to try and get the Neptune to fill with hot water as I would prefer that as the house water heater is set to 68oC. Very occasionally it will take in a small amount, even when setting a 60oC wash.

Have you tried lowering the water heater setting to, say, 50°C? My Dreamspace is programmed to trying to achieve a 40°C fill when connected to hot/cold and heat from there. Maybe, although there shouldn't be any reason, almost 70° from the hot inlet is too hot for the washer's liking.
