maytag neptune with drying cabinat, looking to buy

My wife has read about and badly wants a maytag neptune "drying center" The machine with a cabinate on top where one can dry wool sweaters etc. are there places which might have a gas neptune with one of these cabinates?

She'd heard some have problems with the whirlpool replacement for this model.

What I've learned is that it is a gas or electric dryer with an electric drying cabinate on top. The lower unit does not Power the upper. or that's my impression.

I've found a drying center.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to demate the cabinate from the dryer? I'd like to do this to ease transportation.

I'd hope one would just remove a access panel from the back, unplug an electrical harness and then unscrew the cabinate from the dryer.

allyou expert service people would probably know better than I can guess.

Found one, bought it

We found a Drying Center on Craigs list. It's bought and is in Cleveland (4.5 hrs away) in a friends garage. Many thanks to Rachel in Cleveland who wanted someone to have use of it after it wouldn't fit thru her new house to it's place in the basement.

My wife is pleased!

I'm planning a road trip in the next week to fetch it home

Then the challenge is to shoe horn it thru the house and down the stairs into the basement. (33.5" by 29" by 74" !!)

A 1980s GE gas dryer will be needed a new home in SB.

Got it home

I got it home yesterday. It actually fit in a caravan with 8" to spare. It is larger than most side by side refrigerators.

It is a gas dryer 115 volts, but it has a NEMA 5-20 cord/plug instead of a regular 5-15. So I'll be rewiring the socket and getting an fancy extension cord to reach the socket in the ceiling (yes It's #12 wiring to the socket)

I'll let you know once I get it shoehorned down the stairs and installed.
