I found one of these in good shape for sale and I'm trying to decide if I should go look / get it?? I know they don't come around too often and I already have the E and J...

Wow, a Blue Bell! I think those were rather rare - if I recall. Appears they were the least expensive of the bunch at the time. I've attached a pic of a newspaper ad, The Steubenville Herald Star, of 1962 showing the Maytag line-up.
Also, there is a video on YouTube, posted by member "kenmore1971" showing it in operation. Because the agitator was like an impeller and didn't have a center "post", it seems to have limited turnover. But I'm assuming any standard Maytag agitator would fit.

I would say go for it too! The Blue Bell was not in production for very long compared to other Maytag wringer models and for reasons that have been discussed many times here was never intended to be popular.
I seem to remember seeing or hearing somewhere that the Blue Bell was introduced in 1957. I don't know when production ceased, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was around the same time the J2L was axed which I believe was 1971.

I love the paper. Note the article "Actor Summoned" which I thought was about a court case, but it was a death notice!
The Commander has a "Giant oversize wringer" and the Master a "Large oversize Wringer," but I thought that all three of the regular conventional washers had the same size wringer & wringer construction. Seems sort of amazing for a dealer to have a whole ad with just wringer washers in 1962. I wonder if Oliver's was an exclusive Maytag dealer.

for starting this thread. The NX is on the top of my want list. I would give anything to find one in good condition. They were the entry level model to get the customer in the door I am told. It did not have an agitator but rather the impeller. A standard agitator could be used tho. There was no pump available on the NX and I was told the lid was extra cost but don't know about that. The cord was shorter also. I think there are a couple of them in our members collections. If I were you I would go for it. They are pretty scarce around here. The wringer on the NX and N had 2 1/4 dia rolls and the J and E had 2 3/4 dia rolls. Mine set side by side and you can see the different in the shape of the wringer head also. If you look in the pic I have on my account you can see the difference in the shape of the wringer heads. Anyhow, please let is know if you get this NX. Keep us posted. A member who has one will hopefully chime in here and tell us about the NX. What I stated here may not all be so. And also, the NX had 2 black rolls in the wringer which are softer than the white rolls.

Jim, Thanks. I never saw the N and a more deluxe model side by side. One grandma had the N and the other had the E, but truth be told, the wringer was not the most fascinating part of the machine anyway; just the most dangerous part. I knew there was the balloon roller on the Nx, but did not know about the size difference.
