Maytag Reverse Rack on Tennessee Craigslist

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

bol

One nice thing about the Maytag RR is that the BOL and the TOL, and everything in between, all have the exact same washing mechanism. Same motor, filter, tower and arms.

I wonder if that was a good marketing strategy for Maytag. There was little incentive for a consumer to spend a hundred or two more on an upper tier machine which washed just the same as the absolute BOL machine.

As you went up the line from Maytags BOL you got a rinse aid dispenser, water heating and some extra cycles.

Even if you scraped your pocketbook for the absolute TOL, and got the electronic model (like I have) you still got the same basic machine and even the same number of water changes (five on the max setting). If you had soft water, and your water heater was set high enough, you didn't need the rinse aid dispenser or the water heating.

The only advantage to going up the model ladder was, you could get an extended main wash period (by approximately 10 minutes.)

If someone had harder water or their water temp was low, it might make sense to pay out the extra money for a higher end model. but in general, judging by the fact you see a lot more BOL Maytags around, people apparently didn't opt to go for higher line models.

Seems like Maytag could have induced more sales of the higher profit upper lines models if they hadn't made their BOL so good.

Anyway this BOL machine you see in the add is identical tub wise, motor wise, and wash mechanism wise (and unbelievably, even sound insulation wise) as the very TOL mechanical and even the TOL electronic models.

I've got two and don't need it. If any of you live in the TN area, I would grab it!!

MT RR DW Cycles

If you look at MT DW cycle charts for the different models in the lineup it looks like they could not make up their mind and in most cases you did not get as good cleaning in the cheaper models. MT even made RR models that had no heater element for heating water or drying. It is true that the machines were mechanically the same but in some cases you got better performance in the TOL models and others you got better options in the MOL models and you never got the best performance in the BOL models.

Michael,

You might go around to some of the used appliance dealers, in your area, and give them your name and phone number. They can then call you if a RR comes their way. I have done that before and they have always been very willing to oblige.

Too bad Craigslist doesn't have a watchlist, like Ebay. In Ebay you get an email, when something you put on your waiting list, is posted. (I assume they still have this service. I haven't used that feature in several years so I can't swear by it.)

The Craigslist search engine sites and the "items wanted" listings are OK, but it would sure be nice to have an automated system!
