A few months ago, I had replaced the pump in my A612, and looking at the inside made me know something wasn’t right. Oil from the transmission was sprayed all over the walls of the inside of the cabinet, getting into the pulley system and making it a disgusting mess. After a while I cleaned it up, and looked for a spanner wrench for the tub nut. The only problem was, I got the wrong size. So after a while of searching, I finally got the right size of spanner wrench, and when I went to remove the nut for the transmission issue, it wouldn’t budge. I’ve heard of people just chiseling off the tub nut, but then I wondered, where do you find another one. So I’m stuck in a pickle, and if worst comes to worst, I’ll scrap it and sell parts to you guys for cheap. Also the tub is unbalanced and the washer has been out of commission for months.

might be a good idea to check out some literature and vids before proceeding into areas your unfamiliar with....and your skill level as well....

hint, try applying some penetrating fluid to the nut, and let it soak in....

That nut used to be sold separately in the Newton, IA days but I'm pretty sure Whirlpool only includes it in the stem boot and seal kit today.

Edit: I take that back, it's still sold separately (WP6-2110472) but for a whopping $30. I'd just get stem boot and seal kit for a few more dollars since it probably needs replacement anyway (6-2095720).

That makes sense I would think. Even in the “Maytag” Maytag days, I think they were working hard to reduce the number of separate parts that dealers and repair shops stocked?
