maytag washer a806 50hz pulley .made for use at 50hz power?

Hi im a guy from sweden and have read about sompeople speding up their maytag washers with 50hz pulley set. i wounder if someone can tell if it abel to convert the washer to 110v 50hz with only this set? the reason im asking is. I live in sweden europe.. 230v 50hz power . would really like to have a maytag washer in laundryrom. or is it an other motor one those washers going overseas.

I dare say it would have a different motor. Now you could probably run it on a transformer. My neighbor is from Germany and she said when she married an American, they still lived there while he was in the military and they ran a Maytag washer on a transformer til they could move to the states.

The pulley & belt kit takes care of the motor speed problem, but the voltage would need to be dealt with in some other way, maybe a transformer. Good luck and don't apologize for your English. I don't know one word of Swedish. European educational systems must be great.

okey! thougt so. thath the machines will run slower and the pulley kit speeds it up again. well. also heard of all americans that its an well buildt washer,that lasts fore a long time.
then i thought maybe the quality of motor and the other parts makes it okey with 50hz and just set up with an pulley set if i bring one overseas?
Or Maybe i could change the motor if it dont like the 110v 50hz, Isn't it other countries having a 110v 50hz in powerline? It would be more diffrent to change it to 230v 50hz. finding all parts in 230v. 110v 60hz power is harder to create out us.
But 110v 50hz is not hard to get, just an stepdown transformer. maybe maytag or some other company has motors fore 110v 50hz? Would the timer brakeout on the washer? like overheating. or is that litte magnetmotor just running the program slower? and don't bother the 50hz power.

What will an maytag dryer say? 808model. same way? anyone heard of an pulley set to a dryer? well. im a littlebit handy and repared swedish washers so change motor if i can get anyone made fore 110v 50hz would be easy.

well just whants to be shure before I'll maybe bring washer and dryer overseas. Or get as much info i can get. How big fuse dose it need? is the washer on like 500watt?
I think that the washer would run on 110v 50hz and the pulley set speeds it up.
But would It last wit the change of frequensy? or is it to risky?
dose the gearman coupple still having their maytag running with out problems now?
Would be so nice with 70s crome and american washer/ dryer set in the basemet. dose it wash better than front loads? a wash cycel for dirtylaundry,like underwear. how long time dose it (wash) before riens? Is it 1 normal riens and one spinriens standard ? Is it abel to have fabricsoftner? i cant ask any on in sweden. I think, I woud be the only one in sweden with an maytagwasher.

Hi Christer
You can't just change the pulley. Many components are different between 230v version and 110v version. Timer, inlet valves, motor are all specific to 230v or 110v.

230v 50 Hz motors turn a little slower than 110v 60Hz motors. The bigger pulley for a 50 Hz motor drives the belt a little faster, which compensates for the slower motor speed. If you fit a 50 Hz pulley to a 60 Hz motor, you get faster than factory original wash and spin speeds.

But the whole machine must match the electrical supply - 230v 50Hz or 110v 60Hz.

okey . is it any Idea at all?. do you think i can get those things who i ned to get change for 230v 50 hz? timer motor. motor. inlet water. is it som watersensors in te tub for diffrent water levels? i mean maybe i can put like universal inlet water valves on the washer..
but still i know that the washer whant last att 110v 50hz

Hello Christer,

Welcome to the club of washer affcionados!

If you ask me, letting an American washer run on 110V 50Hz isn't the biggest problem. Your biggest problem would be with the dryer. If you buy a 220V American electric dryer, IIRC you have a dryer with a heating element that runs on 220V and other components on 110V. That means that you can't just simply hook it up to a 230V connection in Europe. You will have to take care of that problem somehow. If you have natural gas, it might be easier to buy a gas dryer because those need 110V only. That means that you could use a transformer for both the washer and the dryer without any further hassle.

If you can solve the problem with the slower speed of the washer, you still have the problem of the slower speed of the dryer too. The dryer will tumble slower, it might not divide the clothes through the drum enough for efficient drying.

The motor might not like 50Hz.

You could reduce the risk by lowering the voltage to 100 volts to compensate for magnetic saturation in the stator... but to be honest I don't know how the other parts would like that.

hi yes i can work on thies machines self.no natural gas. but Liguid propan can i get, isn't the most of the dryers, abel to run on 2 fase that including american 110v+110v -220v 60hz or 1 fase 110v 60hz? woulden the problem be the same and just change pullye and belt?

alternative idea

you might be able to find European voltage versions of this washer somewhere in Europe. I believe that US military bases in Europe had 230v versions of US brand appliances, both for use on base, and at home by the personnel. So you might find a 230v Maytag for sale (used) on Ebay or similar. It would be a rare find, but possible. Most likely would be areas that has US military bases - Germany for example.
They might also have been sold in the UK?? So would it be easier to find a 230v Maytag in UK and import it to Sweden.

They were also sold here in Australia - Maytags for 240v 50 Hz. But shipping a washing machine from Australia to Sweden would be frightfully expensive.

Any way, it would be easier to search the world for a 230v Maytag (any particular model or style?) than to convert a 110v one.
