Hi All!
I hope everyone's 4th of July was fun and safe. Does anyone have a new or good condition used pump for a Maytag wringer washer model N2LP that they would like to sell? The part # is A5317. They are NLA thru Maytag. I really want to get mine up and running.

If you don't get one through "cehalstead"s lead----e-mail "Gansky". I don't remember that guy's name that Greg and I visited last year but if it had to do with Maytag wringers he had the parts!

I think I have found the part for you on-line...go to www.RepairClinic.com and do a search...easy to do....put in the Maytag part no and there it is...let me know if this does not meet your needs and I will still call the guy here...
I bought a PowerFin agitator from them and found them to be very good...
 
Bobby if you can't find the part would you consider wiring in an electric pump, until you could find the actual part? I have used GE Washer top load pumps in a few of my automatics when there was no other option. They are small, quiet and work well.

I called Repair Clinic and they are going to see if their warehouses still have any in stock. They will get back to me in a couple days. I'll keep everyone posted. This wringer is in such terrific shape, but the pump looks like they tried to use it in a cement truck. You are all tops!

Bobby, you should be able to get this. I just picked a new one up on ebay for my N2LPS and installed it. My pump was like yours... seized up, leaking and missing the wheel. I recently found out from Reliable Parts here in Canada that they still have a couple of these in stock so if you run into a dead end just email me.

Hi All,
Repair Clinic just e-mailed, part is on the way. I'll keep everyone posted. Just got a junked Whirlpool DD washer to fix, and hopefully tommorrow an old working Norge. Does anyone have a few hundred extra square feet of floorspace I can have??????????? Yikes!

Well ... HOORAY, Bobby ... CONGRATS!! You will doing a wash in your N2LP before 'ya know it.

Did your washer ever drain without the pump? I mean, did you ever just lay the hose down in to a bucket to drain it? Lots of work, I know ... you will really ENJOY having the pump!!

Does your washer look like this one ... except with a gooseneck hose ending for the pump? This is from a piece of sales literature dated February 1969.

Yes, that's my wringer, with the gooseneck on top of the drainhose. I can't wait to get this working. I will need a new Maytag logo sticker because it's peeled in the corner, and I am considering repainting the lower portion of the cabinet, there are little spots of rust. I hope I can still get the spray paint from Maytag, if not, I'll leave well enough alone.

Bobby ... Yes, you can still get the lacquer finish. BUT ... you will also need the Leveler that goes with the paint. It's a "pain" to do.

Don Shier and I found that a can of Rust-o-leum "appliance" paint in white is a really close match to Maytag's white (actually, it's a little "whiter" if that's possible). The neat thing about the Rust-o-leum paint is that it doesn't need primer (although it's recommended).

Spray evenly ... just in the areas needed ... try not to "overspray".

Before you paint, take rubbing compound (No. 1 - white) and try removing the rust marks and any scratches. You will be surprised how nice a good rubbing compound brings out those finishes. I use liquid Turtle Wax for polishing; 2-3 coats. It's sort of fun to shine them all up!!

The Maytag logo is still available through your dealer (about $2.00 the last time I bought one).

Thanx Geoff! It will be a while before I can paint- I'd like to tackle the wringer after I get the pump in place. Does anyone have a list of what is and what isn't still available for the N2LP's? I'd like to replace the turquoise plastic knobs and the lid gasket too. Once I get going on these machines, I usually don't stop until they are like factory new. Hopefully the pump will come tommorrow. I have a few loads of laundry to do tonight, I'll just have to use the A612!

Bobby ... a lot of the parts are "hit and miss". You should try for the knobs and lid gasket; I think those are still available. I don't have a list compiled of what's still available and what's not. I wish I could get a "master" type list.

When you get a new lid gasket; don't get frustrated with it right away!! They are hard to put on. You need to heat it up first and stretch it. The best way is just to lay it in the hot summer sun for a couple of hours and then step on one end and pull up just past your waist and hold it there for a moment. It's a good exercise program!! :-) Then, put it on the lid fairly quickly while it is still elastic enough.

The repair manual suggests you run it in the Maytag dryer for a few minutes to get it good and warm so it becomes elastic. I have never tried that, but I'm going to order one too for my N and see if that works.
 
Both sound like good ideas to stretch the rubber, Geoff. Since it's ~95 degrees in the shade here, I'll try the sun trick, and hopefully it won't melt!

Yippee!! It came today, an original pump that must have been laying around for decades, since it's all covered with dust. Many thanks to all of you, especially cehalstead for suggesting RepairClinic.com. No more playing with the Whirlpool or Norge. Back to the N2LP! More to come, hopefully with pics. LOL to all,
