Just got these yesterday in Sacramento. Interesting how the dryer paint scheme does not match the washer and the washer paint job looks a little sloppy to me. Regardless, pretty decent machines. Washer 208, dryer 408. My existing HG ‘Tags are both 407’s, probably BOL at the time. Like the fact that the washer is a two-speed, whereas my HG 407 is only one-speed. I notice that the dryer door is larger than my HG 407.
Excited to get these going. I see already the belts on the washer need replacing, and the owner said the dryer quit working a while back and couldn’t remember if it stopped tumbling or if it didn’t heat. After a quick inspection, belts on the dryer seem okay, probably the heating element, she wasn’t sure. However, she was very excited that the set was going to someone who appreciated them. She said these belonged to her parents who were the only owners and she was reluctant to get rid of them because of how great they performed. She tried fixing the dryer but realized it was more than she could handle. Anyway, she was happy they landed with me.
Yes, some of you will probably see the ‘74 LK next to the new ‘Tags — haven’t had any time to get the washer spinning again and look into why the matching dryer took “6 hours to dry” according to the previous owners...
Will post more pics once I get them cleaned up and going...stay tuned! Funny how I am slowly becoming a Maytag fan — never really cared for them before. Could this set be almost the same as that in the Lucy Show episode where she ditched work to go on a shopping spree and took a quick gander at a Maytag set in the department store?
