Maytag's redesigned dishwashers doing well in reviews

Looks like things are going quite well on the Maytag side, in contrast to the Whirlpool's "PowerWave". People want a machine that storms the entire interior with wash action all at once AND keeps itself clean automatically. Maybe there is hope for society after all...

I contacted Maytag and Kitchenaid

recently to ask about the HP ratings for their dishwasher motors. Funny how Maytag advertises to have the most powerful motor in the industry...but aren't Maytag, Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, and JennAir all the same in the guts? Except Maytag has a chopper. Anyway, both Maytag and KA wrote me back saying they no longer have HP ratings for their DW motors. I guess they are ashamed to tell us how weak they really are. My 17 year old Maytag DW has 1/3 hp and my mom's 20 year old KA has 1/2. Honestly, my Maytag will out clean her KA as far as say, a lasagna dish with burned on cheese...but I would LOVE to find a KA like hers for myself...at least it's all metal (mine's plastic). I almost bought a new Maytag a month ago because I thought my old faithful was about to die, I even gave it last rites...but it has kept on going with only ONE repair in 17 years and that was just a rubber hose connector.

Same company - different motors

I think the Maytag versions use the old wash system with the chopper that has a bigger motor. I can say that I have a new Maytag dishwasher with the stainless interior and it's GREAT! It uses a lot of water, gets really hot, is very quiet and feels much more solid than the 2005 WP dishwasher I had that lasted just over 9 years. I think the Whirlpool versions use a newer smaller motor...

Maytag is the only member of the WP brands not to have the filter...

Except for the lack of holes in the bottom wash arm in the center of the tank, this is probably the only dw to buy any more...

I wish

they still had the demo machines with clear doors so we can actually see the wash action like Sears had when I was a kid. I would stand there mesmerized at the spraying water inside. I believe the last one I saw was the demo model of my current Maytag and it was just a clear plastic tank, not an actual dishwasher with a clear door.

I've been thinking

about putting my samsung galaxy s5 active in a zip lock bag along with a flashlight and doing a video on mine..but I haven't had enough ambition to do it yet...but as soon as I do, I will post it.

Samsung in the dishwasher , not advisable

I would not put your smart phone in a zip lock bag. Those devices have very sensitive moisture indicators built into the electronics that change color in the presence of water and once that happens the warranty including any extended one is invalidated better to invest in a Go Pro with a waterproof cover.

I think the Samsung Galaxy Active phone  is water resistant so it can withstand being submerged in water or being dropped in a toilet.  Add a plastic bag to it, and you can probably film some minutes of action. Better than a plastic bag would be one of the vacuum heat sealed bags, like foodsaver.

I wrap my Samsung Note II in two layers of Saran wrap, duct tape the ends - done. Just don't put it through the sani rinse. ;-)

What about putting it in a wide-mouth Mason jar sealed with the proper lid for canning? Surely that would protect the instrument from moisture.

Before my 2013 Maytag was swapped for the '01 PowerClean and put into storage (nestled in a perfect fit on one side of the office closet), I put my old HTC ReZound into a quart sized Ziploc freezer bag, and made sure to push as much air out as possible, and make sure both zippers sealed shut. Not a bit of moisture got in, but I also didn't run a whole cycle, I just ran it for a minute or two at a time while changing camera angles in between. I was extremely impressed with the torrential storm that went on inside. Both the upper and lower arms have quite a bit of power, and all with only about 1.5 gallons per fill charge.

With the PowerClean I actually was able to borrow my father-in-law's GoPro Hero3, which was 150% better. I'm sad I didn't get it in time to run it through the Maytag.

Yes

I would never run the camera through the entire cycle, just at first when the water isn't it's hottest...
