I feel i need to share this with you guys and gals. Right now my health has started to take a sharp decline again. And this time its far worse and is more severe. I am not doing good at all. It was discoverd that part of my problem is my medication cocktail. Ultram being the biggest problem. I took it for 12 years and in that time it has done irreversable damage to my body including sezuries and now some very bad mental issues (mainly severe depresson)... Also i am on Carbidopa Levidopa and well that has played into it as well... It has caused issues with my libdo and the sezuires as well. Overall, i am in bad shape. I am probably going to be admitted into Duke in the next week and will be there for a few weeks if not longer. I'll be ok in the end, but i am scared. It just pays to pay attention to your medications and such. I am in alot of pain and i have had 6 sezuires scince saturday.. Also have had some gawd awful mood swings.. I quit driving as of yesterday and have gotten alot of things in order in case anything does happen. I will keep Appnut-Bob posted via phone (or my partner will) if/when i do go in.. Sorry to be rambling on, i need the support. My wonderful man has been by my side and will not leave me alone until this is over. Thanks again for letting me blab...

Take care of yourself, exploder.

I consider myself lucky not to need much in the way of medications, but I know plenty of people who do. Modern medications work wonders, and help people to live better lives. Sadly, these same medications can do quite a bit of damage.

I'm hoping things will be back under control for you soon. I know that it helps a lot to have somebody rooting for you. And somebody standing by you.

Keep us posted.

I will most certainly be thinking of you often and wishing you a swift return to feeling like yourself again. Stay strong, my friend. Big hugs for you. :)

Feel better soon.

I have the same crap with the meds myself.

Let's face it, we are more or less guinea pigs for the pharmaceutical corporations...but even if you'd have known the meds might have caused other problems down the line, it's just human nature to try anything they come up with that'll make you feel better...

It's crazy, but at least you're vigilant about your health issues, and you're not being an ostrich, with your head in the sand.

So don't give up.

Wishing you many blessings and a speedy recovery!

Scott

Much healing, light and peace to you.

In the 1920s the Rockefeller family began the process of accrediting medical schools. Interestingly some of the very few (perhaps only)branches of medicine they found to be of merit were pharmacological and surgical. (none of the spiritual, "new-age" herbal, yoga, preventative ways, meditation, etc).

This makes a lot more sense in light of their holdings in both pramaceutical manufacturing companies and surgical supply houses. Medical solutions in the USA tend to be surgical and/or pharmcological. If there is not major money in a healing process to be made, they pretty much managed to squash it.

Let's keep in mind that soemthing like 95% of all diesases are iatrogenic (caused by doctors).

I agree with the above posts. One must manage their OWN health-care.

Most of all, think positive. It is now being proven that attitutde and thoughts are most of the battle in ones health.

All the best to you!

Toggle,

I am quite sympathetic to Chad's dilemma, and in much respect for your expertise in all things animal vegetable and mineral. However... 95% of illnesses caused by doctors? Do you have a link or something? I googled iatrogenic diseases, and the 95% figure seems a bit high to me. I suppose if you include all the side effects of various prescription drugs, maybe, but then that is considering that the main ailment is addressed by the medication. I would love if I could blame my type 2 diabetes on doctors, and if I could get rid of it simply by never seeing any doctors, but I really don't think they had much if anything to do with it, considering that I was on no medications and under no treatment when it was diagnosed. While the meds I take for it have their side effects, I consider them minor compared to the various complications that chronic high blood sugar can cause... blindness, heart attack, amputation, etc.

Anyway, I hope Exploder gets better. He needs a break this year.

my two cents

Explorer hope you feel better soon. About Altram- I work in the medical department of a maximum securitty prison (male). Altrum is one of the most requested and most abused drugs we have. Inmates will do just about anything to get on it and deal it in the prison. We even tried to give it in liquid form and they would go back to thier cells and vomit it back up and sell thier vomit. They get a slight "buzz" if they take enough.jeb.

Chad,
You're in my prayers...and my hat's off to your b/f. Sometimes an ill partner is a terrible strain on a relationship. However, it sounds like you got yourself a real man there.
Hugs,
Bill

Update

Had a meeting with Dr.Burke (nuero dr) and Dr.Crisicone today (rehmotoligst) today.
I will be going into the hospital at some point, how long is unkown.
However between the Ultram and the Carbidopa/Levidopa i will have some kind of perment damage. Esp. to my liver. I have had 3 tremours in 26 hours, so thats gone down alot scince i stopped the levidopa.. I am going to a pain managment clinic, going to try chriopratc stuff.. Its taken me 20 min to type this, so i am still slow and its hard to move.. I can't even dial my phone right
Was put on amatriptoleen and tis working well to mellow me out..
Ok, going back to bed

Oh and then my other half informs me he drove my car today and backed into some body.. Scratched my bumper up... Made him buy me an expensive dinner tonight and tommrow.. That'll do

This is bad-GET BETTER!I can agree that WE are the "lab rats" for drug companies. As we all get older-yes I have to take some prescriptions--The dangers of them aren't always apparent until its too late. And what happens when two or more of these are taken together-YOU are now the "chemestry set" for the drug company!Doctors are going to have to consult the books before prescribing medications-and WE as consumers are going to have to look them up as well-have the MSDS sheets on the prescriptions I take.the druggist or doctor can get them for you-beleive druggists have to provide them each time a prescription is filled.

~95% of illnesses caused by doctors?

Can't find a link at the moment, but I do remember being shocked myself at the writer's quoted percentage. (Wwhich is probably why it stuck in my head). Let's just assume I have somehow mis-quoted or taken a sentence out of context.

Re-write:
A great number of illneses are said to be iatrogenic. It is important, therfore, to oversee and manage one's own health-care.

:-)

Yes-that is true-Doctors can kill more people per year than car crashes, handguns, and assault rifles due to improper prescriptions. These are not publicized and a mass manner. Also some doctors can be dishonest-causing problems. Then the bad ones can be relicensed to practice in another state.Yes-you have to manage some of the healthcare yourself. And some of these injuries and deaths can be due to carelessness on the part of an overloaded med professional that is trying to do too much.-and the person is overworked-tired and can do careless things to YOU.How much rest has that doctor had that treats you?Esp if its a critical treatment.Scary thought. That intern that works on you-he may have worked most of the night on a doubleshift!Truely he or she will be out of it!I am not arare of any time limits on healthcare folkslike what is on other workers as to the time and overtime combined they may work in one shift-for me at my workplaceits no more than 12hrs.If you are fatigued-a transmitter can kill or hurt you!
