The only issue I've had with TwinDos was with a failed cartridge that had an airlock due to a faulty valve.
You can flush the twin-dos system yourself by just following the on-screen instructions in the setup menu for cleaning it.
The main thing is if you are using thicker detergents, or if you change detergent you definitely need to perform a flush out. The Miele ultra phase packs are designed to be pumped, so aren't viscous.
A lot of the normal ones are designed to cling to clothes when you're pre-treating so they're not actually very ideal for pumping.
Ariel liquid is probably runnier than Persil Small and Mighty though.
If you want to use Persil, I'd suggest getting your hands on some Persil Professional Bio liquid, not the consumer version. It comes in a huge 10 L tank!
