The only issue I've had with TwinDos was with a failed cartridge that had an airlock due to a faulty valve.

You can flush the twin-dos system yourself by just following the on-screen instructions in the setup menu for cleaning it.

The main thing is if you are using thicker detergents, or if you change detergent you definitely need to perform a flush out. The Miele ultra phase packs are designed to be pumped, so aren't viscous.

A lot of the normal ones are designed to cling to clothes when you're pre-treating so they're not actually very ideal for pumping.

Ariel liquid is probably runnier than Persil Small and Mighty though.

If you want to use Persil, I'd suggest getting your hands on some Persil Professional Bio liquid, not the consumer version. It comes in a huge 10 L tank!

78p a cycle

This stuff is jaw dropping expensive. The Ultra Phase Detergents are only like 40p a cycle.

Miele UltraPhase

Could you re-use* the Miele disposable UltraPhase detergent bottles, by boring a hole on the upper side, pouring in your preferred liquid, then putting a rubber bung in? Or is there a fill hole covered over? I presume there is some kind of air vent or bleed hole to allow air into the bottle to prevent airlock and the bottle collapsing due to vacuum pressure.

*{As you might do with ink-jet printer cartidges...}

I had forgotten how awful this low-voltage system was when it comes to running anything more potent than a tea-cup stirrer.

Because Americans think their ways are better than the rest of the world, we are stuck with the English Common system of measurement (14 inches to foot, four feet to a quart, three quarts to a tablespoon...and everything measured by volume).

Same reason we are stuck with this stupid 120V 15A (20A if you're lucky) current.

Never mind the resistance to all the other advances Europe and Asia take for granted.

Spare cartridges

I think the Original Poster's machine came from 'off-the-floor', end-of-line, display model, without all the usual odds and ends a pristine packaged model would have.

I have seen a foot ruler divided into 10ths though. I don't if it was a genuine American device, or if it was a joke one that somebody picked up on holiday somewhere.

I was teasing. Robert Heinlein made that particular joke first, in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, but it is nuts here in the US.

I still do all my own work and layouts in metric - so much easier than this stupid system my American colleagues use. Faster, more accurate, scalable....

With all the different detergents I use from load to load, from what I can see the auto dosing units wouldnt work as well for me as a regular unit with a drawer.

Cool and easy if you use the same detergent a lot, but otherwise purging and cleaning lines to go from one to the other with frequency seems like it would become a chore and wasteful as you lose the product in the lines.

Or am I not understanding how this works?

Auto dose Persil calculation

The dose for that Unilever Persil is only usually 35ml.

It should last 285 washes and can be purchased for about €70 if you shop around.

24 cent per wash.

Like the Miele stuff, it's specifically designed to be pumped by dosing system. So if shouldn't clog .

....

You still have a drawer.

Choice is :

1. Use the washing machine as normal - with the drawer.
2. Press DOS and the machine will dispense it's own detergent - you can select colour or whites which adds a dose of peroxide bleach. You can also pick light (lower dose), normal or heavy (does a full prewash).

Then you can either buy Miele cartridges ready filled, or you can use your own liquid in refillable containers.

You can either use a universal detergent on its own or with a softener in the second tank.

You could also use your own detergent and a liquid wash booster I'm cartridge 2.

So LOTS of options and you can always just dose.manually by simply not selecting DOS.
