Here's what I'd do

get everyone in on this and retract all your bids at once today.
Real value should = Real Price.

I agree with Greg if the seller wants the highest price then put it out to auction publicly or have the kahones to say I want $500 bucks b/o right out there. There has to be too much "faith" on the seller's part doing it this way, thats the messy part of this.
 
Looks like the chrome would need replated too. I can see the pitting in the photos. This machine would still need a lot of work to make it operational. May as well buy one that has been used for $50.00 and rebuild it. Same amount of work and $$$ to rebuild it, and would save at least $450.00 in the process......
 
Whoops! Forgot to mention the cabinet repainting. The residue from the shipping tape left on the cabinet for 42 years will NEVER come off. Cabinet refinishing would be another item to add to the list.

Thank you and your website very much for allowing me to shift what I thought was worthless junk for allot of money with no over-head costs. The free advertising itself saved me the fees and expenses of dealing with an auction site like eBay,and again will not have to share the final price with anyone.

While common courtesy would normally call for offering a token contribution to your website for it's efforts, you people seem to love vintage appliances, and therefore should take comfort in knowing this one is going to a good home instead of being put out for rubbish. Well cannot really say what sort of home it is going to, but it is out of mine and I made a decent profit, so that is that.

Well must go now, our new big screen-HD-Plasma televison is being delivered (paid for in part or whole from the proceeds of selling the old junk washing machine), and have to get things ready before the game comes on.

Well it looks like the machine is sold...

Not at any time had I envisioned that so many good folks would have an interest in our Maytag washing mashing. As a result of your efforts on our behalf, we were able to run a short and silent auction on the washer. It sold for $850. I can tell you that we are shocked to say the least. We had been planning to get ourselves a dish washer later in the year, but now, thanks to you and your organization, we will be able to get it much sooner. Heck, we may even get real crazy and pop for a new sink as well.......

Many thanks to you and all of the fine people who participated in this most exciting event. I can honestly say that I will never look at a washing machine the same way again.

Well, congratulations and good luck to whomever won...I'm looking forward to the reveal! :)

Hopefully it won't take too much work to go into service after 43 years of sitting up.
 
Sticking with a Wringer Machine

I've gotta say that this lady who didn't want to mess with her new automatic washer runs away with the title of most technologically challenged person of the millenium. No question in my mind that these people did not own a VCR, or if they did it's lying around NIB somewhere in that house too, and is far more obsolete at this stage than the A700.

It wasn't that the lady didn't want to use her new machines, just that hubby laid down the law and wouldn't install them and from the looks of things forbade anyone else to and or use of the units. Marriage and such was very different 40 some odd years ago,and for better or worse there were lots of women who knew just how far to push their husbands on cerian matters.

IMHO marriage is like a war, one chooses one's battles carefully in order to prevent loosing gained territory! *LOL*

But Laundress, in Robert's initial post it states that the husband gave the Mrs. this machine as a gift. It seems to me that she didn't want to learn it and kept on using her wringer machine instead, or at least that's what I thought somebody wrote somewhere above.

Regardless, this is just one unusual machine that we've all been lucky enough to find out about. Imagine how many more treasures are out there that never find their way on line. You never know what's going to turn up out there and it's even less likely that there will be a story behind it but it's always interesting to speculate on why some of these machines have survived to provide enjoyment to people like us AW members!
