Microwave Oven

I'm want to get a new microwave oven. The one I currently have is about 15 years, it still works but the paint is coming off on the inside bottom of the oven. I'm considering these two models, does anyone have either of these models or heard anything about them good or bad?

New microwave oven

I don'tknow if this is of any help to you but we just purchased a new microwave oven about 3 months ago after having similar problems to you with the paint and white enamel peeling off after many years of use.
We got a Samsung model no:ME6124W, which has a different interior lining it is not white enamel but a speckly coloured non stick surface which has been a breeze to clean so far anyway.
It has 1000 watts power,sensor cooking,auto defrost, auto reheat,beverage key, so far very happy with it.
I really don't know if this model is available in the U.S.A. but perhaps they may have something similar.

I had a sharp and it was awful.. Just horrendus and never worked right.. Now have a Whirlpool Microhood and its ok, just eats a fuse...

I am told Panasonic makes a good oven... So does LG

I bought for my parents' kitchen three years ago. It was ok - the convection function works well, the grill a bit spotty.
I didn't like the way it was very easy to knock the rotating plate off kilter.

For what it does and how well it does it, the price is ok. They gave it to one of the grandkids who have yet to kill it. I think that speaks well for the quality.

Are you looking exclusively for a microwave to warm things up or to cook with.

If just to warm stuff and occasionally zap stuff out of the deep freeze, I'd got with a vintage RadarRange, they show up at the thrift stores all the time and their lower power is more than compensated for by their ease of programming, reliability and easy cleaning.

We really don't cook in the micro. I would love to get a vintage RadarRange, they look so stylish. I've been checking the 2nd hand shops and thrift store, but haven't been able to find one yet. My roommate's mother has the same micro, and she really likes it.

and unlike Travlincub, I find it fantastic. Its 15yrs old and when it does decide to 'give up the ghost' I, like Launderess, will be very sorely tempted to get it fixed - I like it that much...

When looking at microwaves, consider the wattage and if you can, use one of a similar wattage and see what you think. I personally don't like microwaves above about 800watts...

Not So Sharp:

I have to say that both the Sharps I've owned were disappointments; both died very prematurely from bad touchpads. I especially hated that on the second one, because it was a full-sized model, very nice, and when it was working, it was great. But the quality didn't seem to be there; it died at only 2.5 years old, and I'm not hard on appliances at all.

We've got 2 sharps and Two LG's at work at the moment

The LG's are 2-3 years old, the Sharps around 5 years old.

The Sharps have most of the display missing from the screen (Seems to happen with most Sharps manufactured in the last 10 years that I've seen) and the LG's are just slow by comparision.

We've had 2 LG Convections at home, the convection part worked great, the microwave part was slow.

We've had a 44L Panasonic Convection oven for 2 years now, the Big ones are still made in Japan and I expect it to get the same sort of Lifespan as Mum's that's coming up to 25 years old.

The Panasonic ones that I've always used at work places plus mums seem to be quick and stand up well to the abuses at work.

I freeze food in 550Ml containers and find the following time differences in reheating.

1000watt LG's - 9-10 mins
800watt Sharps - 6-7 mins
800watt Panasonic - 5 mins
650watt Panasonic - 6-7 mins

The Panasonic and Sharp reheat evenly and dont need to be stirred. The LG requires you to stir the food and keep mixing it around, or after 10 minutes you still get a block of ice in the middle.

If you want a big unit, go for the Made in Japan Panasonic stuff.

3 years ago I bought the biggest Kenmore they offered. I got a 2.0 cu ft Kenmore Elite, 1100 watts, it has multiple presets, 3 defrost choices, plus soften and melt settings. It works great and heats quickly, no problems with reliability.
It replaced a 1983 TOL JCPenney solid-state microwave, still worked, but had developed multiple hot spots.

Microwaves in Hotels

Since i stay in alot of Hotels and usualy try and get ones with microwaves
