I'm watching "Midnight Cowboy" on Flix, and I've just seen the laundromat scene. What model were those washers there?

Westinghouse Commercial Laundromats. Rico distracts woman so that he can place Joe Buck's clothes into the washer. Joe sits naked in a chair wrapped in a blanket, waiting for his clean clothes.
I grew up with Westinghouse Laundromats. Around the mid 1960's the washer was failing regularly. The final straw was when it flooded the whole downstairs because a piece of plastic tubing pulled off the water fill pressure switch. We got new Westinghouse top loaders in avocado, the one with a weigh-to-save lid. The lid would lock during a spin and a few minutes after the cycle ended. If you pulled up on the locked lid it would make a loud buzz sound.

I remember using these machines in a laundromat when I was a kid in the 60s was fun washers. They didnt have a sign on the dispenser that said 'liquid only'

Put powders through door probably means it`s ok to add liquid additives like bleach or softener through the designated hole as not to mess up the washer as it is in picture # 1.
What I never get is how could a run down place like this have been in business?
Of course those washers were old in 1969 when the movie was made, but for heaven`s sake is it so difficult to use a wet sponge or whatever it takes to clean the exterior of this poor washer?
