This morning I was driving passed a second hand shop. I noticed there was a wringer washer standing outside. I had to stop and have a closer look. It was a Miele 75T complete with Miele wringer. It is a semi automatic machine that works with a thermostat and automatic start when the selected temperature is reached. This was the TOL of the Miele wringer washers. The TOL Miele twintub had the same semi automatic system. Both were very expensive machines. At this moment in my life I don't need a wringer washer, but goodness I was tempted!

Miele 75 Teilautomatic

In action!

One either used wringer or spin dryer for extraction, each sold by Miele.

Drain hose on washer found by Louis obviously has been changed from original. Its red color indicates a modern type meant to cope with hot to very high water temperatures.

Late 1940's early 1950's one still could get a Miele washer with tub made of wood.

Miele also offered a round tub wringer washer, the mighty W 155. More than 250,000 units of this model were manufactured during the period of its production from 1945 to 1967.

By 1950's washing machines in Germany began moving out of wash houses and basements into main living areas. Miele's square cabinet top loading washers reflected that change. You saw this across Europe as other manufactures also brought out square tub and compact wringer washers.

Not sure about elsewhere in Europe

But one can find older washers by Miele and others without looking too hard in Germany. Ditto for ironers and other vintage laundry appliances. Most go for very little money.

Washers with manually powered wringers were easier (and cheaper) to design, build, etc.... Power mangles require some sort of transmission or other mechanism to get power from main motor, or perhaps had one of their own.

These washers were "semi-automatic" as such one didn't need to provide wash action. That and many did have timers which would stop wash action. Add a pump and there you are....

If one had to chose one would go with Servis Superheat washer.

Servis offered greater capacity tub and a power wringer.

What you've got a hold of there is famous Miele W 477

If one ever shows up on this side of pond I'm having it!
