Finally we decided to go all out purchasing the best modern appliances for our dream kitchen. We were fortunate to rough-in extra 240 v power for special / unique appliances while building our house.

We are fans with Miele and Wolf kitchen appliances. Several years ago we toured the Miele manufacture plants and museum in Germany. The tour was amazing and we scored some bling and Miele towels.

The past year we found fantastic deals on Miele unboxed floor models, We decided our new home will be equipped with Miele. Yet, the countertop appliances are Wolf. I was the first Canadian to get a Wolf mixer (I like it better than my pro kitchen Aid mixer).

Our kitchen is equipped with a Miele professional 36” duel fuel master chief range, Miele steam combi oven, Miele built in coffee maker, Miele built in fridge and best yet a Miele professional dishwasher- wired for 240v ( 24 minute wash cycle... amazing).

In addition, we kept our Miele Little Giant’s Washer and Dryer from our other house - we were able to rough in the 208 v prior to installation. Saved significant amount of money to rough all the 240 v wiring in advance.

I still need to set up my vintage collection (1973 kenmore portable washer, 1940,s Bendix and my prize Hobart 1940 UM Dishwasher)

Miele professional 36” duel fuel

It's been a number of months since I worked for Miele, but I'm unaware of pro ranges; I thought "we" only had residential ranges?

Two Miele groups I would never own, having torn all of them down to almost the last screw and making many many service calls- range and refrigeration. Both are finnicky and can have issues with something as simple as the environment they're in!

More than likely you'll have one or both of these issues with the range; poor lighting and or yellow flames. The oven part shouldn't be an issue. Oh, and be careful with the control knobs for the cooktop- there are plastic "clutches" (schaft extensions is the proper term) that can get out of alignment pretty easily, and they don't like being forced. I've replaced probably a hundred or more of them. Germany's aware of these issues and even re-engineered the burner heads/ignitors, but the replacements come with their own set of issues. The new ignitors are very prone to collecting foreign matter (cleaning products, etc.) and not lighting. In one case, a customer was running a humidifier in the next room and that caused yellow flames. In another, there was a small creek running right behind the house/kitchen and that was blamed for the yellow flames.

For the fridge, make sure you're keeping the toe-kick area clean, especially if you have any pets. Check for the instructions online for taking the lower toe-kick plate off so you can vac in there once or twice a year. Also be very careful replacing the water filter as the bracket it locks into has issues and cracks at nothing- be sure you have a shut-off for the water feed handy. Germany is aware of the issue and wants any replaced brackets back.

For all the rest, maintenance and use are key to avoiding service calls! They like to be taken care of and they get cranky if they sit (water pumps lose prime, etc.). And you'll love that pro-for-the-home DW as much as your Little Giants! Oh- a tip for the coffee center; when you're done using the milk for the morning; fill the milk flask with water, insert it, and call for steamed milk or milk froth to clear the valve where the flask inserts as well as the rest of the pipework. The rinse milk pipework feature does not clean the valve where the flask inserts, which causes many, many service calls. There are instructions for putting the valve in the cleaning position and using that mini bottle brush to clean it, but the method I mentioned is much simpler.

We were lucky enough to have a Miele Experience Center locally. When they didn't renew the lease, everything in there needed to be sold off and we got some great deals! They had the TOL Futura Diamond DW ($2600) and the tru-pro DW ($5100) in the live kitchen; I got them both for $750! Never-used coffee center in white for $100 because no one wanted it! Combi-steam oven for $300, etc.

Best of luck with your new kitchen and I hope they all give you years of service!
