We have had our Miele G7166 for almost a year now and have been very pleased. Everything comes out flawlessly. I’ve set the default AutoDos dispense amount (in settings) to decreased and everything still comes out looking great. (Especially glasses and flatware.)

I’ve been curious about if it dispenses any detergent in the Prewash phase or if it is only in the Main Wash phase.

Here is what I found:

I ran a Pots / Pans cycle and measured the weight of the PowerDisk before starting the cycle, at the end of the Prewash then in the middle of the Main Wash

For reference my water hardness is set at 16 dH and the AutoDos dispense volume is set to decreased.

Disk was 429 g at cycle start
423 g at end of Prewash
412 g after Main Wash dispense

It looks like the machine does dispense a small amount (6 g) in the Prewash (consistent with what the manual says for adding a small amount of detergent [when not using AutoDos and manually dispensing]for cycles that have a Prewash phase).

I checked the disk weight at two different times in the Main Wash and it was consistent. 11 g was dispensed for the Main Wash.

The thing I find interesting is that the dispensed amounts were not in increments of 7 g which is what I thought was the amount dispensed for each disk rotation. So, there must be something else that is coming into play.

Anyone know any of the logic that is used for AutoDos dispensing?

Hi Bob, I love that your dishwasher puts detergent in both the pre-wash and the main wash. I’ve always felt this works much better with any dishwasher. I’ve used

Especially if you’re washing dirty dishes. It just makes sense to have some detergent in the machine at all times until the final rinses,

Adding detergent in the pre-wash is great. It definitely helps improve performance as more gunk can get washed away in the prewash cycle.

I have a grip that many modern dishwashers, Miele included, no longer put a pre-wash cup leaving you to add it to the tub. I personally like the cup as it helps me to add in the right amount.

Related to that, it's a little annoying to have to check the manual to know which cycles use a pre-wash or not. When using up the rest of my liquid detergent (I have almost finished my 7 free pods and have been alternating detergents more now), I added some to the tub for the Normal cycle and I was a little horrified to hear the door snap open not long into the cycle, meaning I overdosed. This applies to nearly all brands now, regardless of if they include the cup or not. Perhaps use the (under-utilized) screens that the G7156 and up have to indicate this information.

Michael, in some ways I can identify iwth your comment. I initially missed the prewash cup when I got my Bosch in 2021. But I got some liquid Cascade to make it wasy to just squirt some on the door. With my loads, it's rare I don't need prewash detergent. However, getting used to my machine, I realized that when I slide the cover for the main wash detergent closed there emerges in view on the dispenser housing a nice indent that's perfect for said intention, I'm just not ocd abouit the proper prewash dose, just get some in there and let te wash tablet do its thing.
