Miele Dishwashers

So I have started to have the urge to get a new dishwasher and am considering a Miele (G5915SCi or similar).

A few questions for Miele owners:
1. Is it possible to create a custom program on the newer models? (i.e., adding a prewash or an extra rinse and saving that for easy recall)
2. Is it possible to check (via the control panel) what the wash/rinse temperature is?
3. Any ideas what the highest temperatures they can achieve in the sani cycle?
4. What are the racks made of?

I looked in the manuals posted on line and could not see any information about target wash/rinse temperatures.

We have dogs and the dog dishes are usually washed in the dishwasher with the rest of our dishes. So, the sanitization cycle is used almost all of the time on our KitchenAid (approximately 4 years old). I like the idea of being able to modify the sani cycle to add an extra rinse or prewash as needed depending on the load.

1) There is a Memory setting that'll save each setting you made for a given cycle. Ex.: if you set Normal Wash with an extra prewash - the next time it'll automatically recall that setting. You might, however, have to get your hands on a service manual to activate the Memory feature. Don't know if the US models have that feature under gthe Settings menu like all the non-US models.

2)If you switch the country mode to UK, it'll tell you the temp. Jerrod* did this, I think. *)a member here

3) 140F will be the final rinse temp for most cycles. Some cycles will go higher, some not (China & Chrystal, for example). You can have it raised via the serive menu. FWIW, dog saliva is actually "cleaner" than human saliva.

Settings Menu

There is a settings menu on my Excella. I have never attempted to access a service/programming menu.

I too wash dog bowls in my machine. Using SANITIZE or HEAVY WASH programs mostly. Sometimes POTS AND PANS or CHEESE/STARCH.

On my LaPerla I can add a soak to Heavy and Pots and Pans. Normal there are no options really and I can set the dishwasher to remember the last cycle if I want and I can also change the cycle listing on the panel. As far as temp goes I have never seen it display the actual cycle temps. But when I get into the system settings via the service display I can access the machine functions like increasing the water usage by 16 oz per segment like wash and rinse portions, wash and final rinse temps by increasing the settings. There is alot I can do with my machine and even change what country and continent settings and it changes the cycles parameters. I once had it set to Australia and the cycles ran cooler and longer...didnt last too long with me on that setting.
The racks in mine are nylon coated and well made. But after 5+ years I do have a couple of rust spots but only on the end of the tines at the bottom but no issue to me. The racks are a tad smaller than an American machine but I find I can put in as much if not more and the racks are very flexible. I can take out the plate inserts and use the entire lower rack for pots and pans and lower the upper rack and load that up as well and take the silverware tray out and increase my clearance height for deep pots.
Now on my machine it has VarioPressure where the wash pump increases water pressure and volume for certain cycles like Pots and Pans, Heavy/Intensive and Tall Items,uses Normal pressure for Normal and less pressure for China Crystal and Glasses. The pots and pans cycle will clean just about anything I throw at it and it scours and adds 171 degree wash temps in the main wash. I also add a Soak to it so the first prewash is the soak and that can last as long as 30 mins.
The dishwasher has a water softener as well and sensors that sense how hot the water is coming into the machine, how hard the water is to adjust the water softener, how much water pressure is coming into the machine and meters how much it uses, wash pump has the internal water heater and sensors for speed and temp. It also tracks code faults and hours of useage. This dishwasher will nag me when I need dishwasher salt, rinse aid and to clean the filters which by the way are self cleaning most of the time. My machine is very quiet, not silent as since I changed the water useage on it and I can hear the wash action now. Once you go Miele you never go back.

We purchased the Miele Diamond 5915 back in February of this year. Best dishwasher we have had beside our '96 Maytag 9922. Don't think we could go back to looking inside a dark dishwasher LOL!

Forgot to add. Just as nmassman44 said, you can go into the service menu and have it add more water, second interim rinse, and boosted temperature. Only thing that bugs me, I have it setup not to go to standby, but after 6 hours elapses during the night, program finished display shuts off, and there is no standby light like they show in the manual. (Well, there is a green LED, but the only way it turns on is in the LED test)

After mine is finished, the condenser fan continues to run for an extra half hour. Then the fan and display shut off. The green led next to the start button will pulse to indicate clean dishes.

My only complaint with this machine is the issue with a blocked wash arm. The display will report it, but there is no error tone to call attention to the problem.

Malcolm I think you can change that in the service programming. I will have to check but I don't have mine turned on and you can also set it up to alert you when the cycle is complete too.
I have mine set up for the interim rinse as well in the programming. That Diamond Miele with the lights inside is too kewl I think!

I have the LaPerla like Nmassman44 has. I bought it in 2006 so it is 7 years old and there is no way for me to know if it performs exactly like todays models. I can see that the programs are a bit different.

For the models in the USA they no longer let you put the salt into the door like my model and the newer ones do not seem to read the water hardness and automatically set the water softener Instead you have to manually set the hardness yourself. It looks like you have to do this as well in the UK.

I did try to get the temperatures to display but was never able to get them. I did change the country setting to UK and this produced a different type of cycle - actually longer so I set it back to North America.

I do have the language set to GB which gives me a different read out during the wash cycles.

As Alex suggested you can go to the Miele web site of another country like UK or AU and find the dishwasher that looks like yours. In this case on the UK site it looks like it is the G5935 XXL. You can download the user manual for this model and it will give you the temperatures for each cycle.

Why Miele will not give the NA consumer this information is just beyond me.
There is also the possibility that our temperatures may not be as hot as listed in the UK manual because we have different energy standard requirements.

You can go into the service menu and increase the temperatures by 5 degrees or something like that, and you can force the machine to always rinse 3 times after the wash instead of letting it decide when to rinse 3 instead of 2.

The machine most certainly knows what the temperature is because I saw it displayed on the service mans laptop. He connected the laptop to the machine and ran a cycle just to check things out. As the cycle progressed a readout appeared on the screen showing the current water temp, the target water temp, the speed of the pump, which spray arms were rotating and so on.

I never increased the temperature or the number of rinses because I get excellent performance without doing so.

I can use just about any type of detergent with success. Cascade Gel, Platinum, Finish powder, Finish Quantum, Finish Gel pacs....whatever I use produces good results with most loods.

Míele Professional...

...offers sanitation temperatures of 93°C which is 199°F. Therefore there shouldn't be plastic items in those loads... It holds this temperature for a few minutes so it applies for special needs in hospitals etc.
