Miele G 5605 SCU DW "Water Intake" Fault Display

Last night I ran the subject dishwasher on the "Normal" cycle.  While tending to other things in the kitchen mid-cycle I realized the machine had stopped operating.  I looked over and saw "Water Intake" on the display.

 

I consulted the owner's guide and under FAQ it explained that this indicator will display when there's not enough pressure in the supply line.  It also mentioned a filter in the line that might need to be cleaned.  The first procedure suggested was to shut off the machine and re-start.  I noticed that the detergent dispenser flap had opened and there was no water in the tank, so the main wash period had been completed.  I ran the shortest cycle to finish the rinsing/drying process and there was no issue with water supply.

 

The FAQ referred me to the care and maintenance section for further information, but it contained nothing about a filter in the supply line.  I checked at the valve and there's no indication of a filter assembly.  Is there a filter or screen located under the machine?  That would be an inconvenient thing to access.

 

If anyone is familiar with this Miele system, I'd appreciate some advice.

Water intake does not always mean main line in

As I found myself when my Miele G8720 SC decided it would not complete the wash cycle it too was fine on pre-wash or just rinse but it turned out it was a valve on the water softener. If your DW has a softener it may be an idea to see if the salt is clogged or some other issue to do with water inlet in the end I had a spare resin pot so swapped the whole unit and its worked flawlessly ever since.

I haven't had a need to use the water softener on my machine.  Glassware is spot-free, and the whole water softener process seems like more trouble than it would be worth.

 

I've been using this machine since early June, so am left wondering why this would happen now.

 

Thanks for advising that it's not necessarily an inlet issue.  I'm pretty good about keeping on top of the filter assembly, but have never touched anything on the softener.

Hi Ralph

I had exactly the same thing happen yesterday. We got home from work last night, it had finished the wash, but hadn’t rinsed. I restarted the cycle and it completed successfully.

If you want to check the filter, it’s inside the brass nut where it connects to the tap.

I had assumed that water had gone off in the suburb mid cycle, I’ll let you know if it happens again.

The supply line is the standard braided flexible type.  Did Miele provide their own proprietary supply line with these machines when they were new?  I got my machine at the ReStore several months ago, but had to use my own supply line and as far as I know there is no filter or screen where it attaches to the supply valve.

Hi Ralph, I’m amazed that Miele don’t hve the Waterproof hose on those in the US Market. IE the one with the valve at the tap.

If there’s no filter on the valve where the hose connects, then they’re assuming that you’ve put one in the hose where it connects to the tap.

I’ve run another 2 cycles since mine stalled and it’s been fine since. Hopefully for both of us, it was a one off glitch

Oh, it could have had that hose, but I bought it used and it had no supply hose at all.

 

My older Miele has the bulky assembly where it connects to the tap with a garden hose fitting, but I was told that this newer model has that unit integrated within the dishwasher itself, so a standard supply hose is all that's necessary.

 

I've run a couple of rinse/hold cycles since the fault displayed and have had no trouble.
