Perhaps you knowledgeable people can help me with this one. I have a Shark cordless vacuum which I do like and is great for my needs, but I have been debating getting a cannister vacuum for more flexibility. My house is all hardwood, so it is quite easy to clean but I do vacuum the sofas and mattresses occasionally. I've seen great reviews for the Kenmore and the Miele but am undecided. Obviously, the Miele is more expensive, but I do notice that some of the Kenmore's have more tools that come with it. What would you all recommend since vacuums are not my area of expertise

Definitely Miele. As what Greg said, bags are expensive but for the price, they are the best bags I've ever seen. And you can also order attachments separately either online or at a Miele dealer. The C1 Classic Pure Suction currently has a Black Friday sale going on.

Miele prices run the gamut of around $250 to $800 ish depending on the model if it's made in China or Germany. Can't see any reason why, with mostly hard floors you'd need to buy anything other than their lowest price model, you don't need a powered floor nozzle if you don't have carpeting really, waste of money. I have a highend Miele, it's great and quiet and recently got the Sebo K3 also made in Germany at the restore cheap.. and to be honest I like the Sebo better but they're pretty pricey to buy new as well... If you have a restore near you and you visit it a couple of times a week you'll find one for next to nothing and save yourself a fortune... plus the fun of the hunt. Can't speak about the newer Kenmore canisters.. ones I've had in the past were somewhat noisy beasts, good but noisy and I don't like noisy vacuums. LOL.

We’ve owned 3 Kenmore canisters over the years and they are very good vacuums, but the hoses for the power nozzle models is a weak point. We have carpet and stairs and after time on every one of the Kenmore's the wiring in the hose near the handle eventually wears out making the power nozzles useless. The first two times this happened a new hose only cost about $35, when the wires in the hose on the last one we owned broke a new hose was over $100! Needless to say the Kenmore was donated to charity.

We bought a Miele C1 Compact with a turbo nozzle that operates on the suction of the vacuum and does an excellent job on our off white WW carpet in Jan 2019 and we love it! It’s very quiet yet powerful with very powerful suction and also has a suction control dial that allows you to reduce the suction for vacuuming curtains and drapes. It’s also the most maneuverable vacuum that I’ve ever used and fairly lightweight too. The bags are a bit expensive but they last along time. They also filter better than any vacuum bag I’ve ever used. My husband David does the house cleaning and prefers a canister and he really love this Miele and he says so every week when he does the vacuuming. I HIGHLY recommend the Miele C1 Compact canister vacuum.

Any Vac repair shop that can repair a Miele can repair a Kenmore by Panasonic. Miele's start at $600 for the China sourced, and go as high as $1,600 for the top of the line Brilliant. Bags and filters cost a lot more too. The Miele dealer we bought our Vacuflo from said they love to sell them, then showed me how many were in the back for repairs. Many!
