Perhaps you knowledgeable people can help me with this one. I have a Shark cordless vacuum which I do like and is great for my needs, but I have been debating getting a cannister vacuum for more flexibility. My house is all hardwood, so it is quite easy to clean but I do vacuum the sofas and mattresses occasionally. I've seen great reviews for the Kenmore and the Miele but am undecided. Obviously, the Miele is more expensive, but I do notice that some of the Kenmore's have more tools that come with it. What would you all recommend since vacuums are not my area of expertise

Definitely Miele. As what Greg said, bags are expensive but for the price, they are the best bags I've ever seen. And you can also order attachments separately either online or at a Miele dealer. The C1 Classic Pure Suction currently has a Black Friday sale going on.

Miele prices run the gamut of around $250 to $800 ish depending on the model if it's made in China or Germany. Can't see any reason why, with mostly hard floors you'd need to buy anything other than their lowest price model, you don't need a powered floor nozzle if you don't have carpeting really, waste of money. I have a highend Miele, it's great and quiet and recently got the Sebo K3 also made in Germany at the restore cheap.. and to be honest I like the Sebo better but they're pretty pricey to buy new as well... If you have a restore near you and you visit it a couple of times a week you'll find one for next to nothing and save yourself a fortune... plus the fun of the hunt. Can't speak about the newer Kenmore canisters.. ones I've had in the past were somewhat noisy beasts, good but noisy and I don't like noisy vacuums. LOL.
