Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

You bring up a very valid point.

I can see people programming in really stupid cycles and then suing because their clothes are still dirty.

A better idea would be to make the programming software open source with a large disclaimer which basically tells consumers that they can't be held responsible.

Then again, I do kind of wonder what kind of lawsuits could result from it.

I think some people are confusing the hidden program menu with the ability to buy additional programs from Miele. These are two separate things. Miele field techs can access the hidden program menu either by key combination code from the machine's panel or via the PC Update connection. Once in the program menu, technicians can look at fault history and reset some of the machine's parameters - i.e., cool down period in the dryer, moisture sensor up or down, increased wash water and rinse levels, enabling/disabling certain automatic load sensing functions, etc.

However, Miele specifically states on its web site and marketing materials that additional wash cycles and program packages can be purchased for their machines. This is true in the professional series, where machines can be customized via special program packages for specific types of duties (i.e., hospital, estate home, bed and breakfast, etc.). Miele does not state which models are eligible for additional, purchasable cycle options. One assumes all of their machines are capable of doing this, but Miele has never released purchasable cycle or program "packages" in the NA market to my knowledge.

If you want to buy additional cycles not present on your machine (i.e., "sports gear" or other specialized cycle), you certainly can't buy it from Miele despite their marketing claim to the contrary. However, you as an end user can still access the hidden program menu to increase water levels, change the cool down period of your dryer, sensitivity of moisture sensor, etc. You just need a service manual to show you the right sequence and what options to select.

Too bad, that you in the US are not able to buy those packages. But okay, another question is if you would really need those.

I have them all, just testing them one by one.

It seems to me that the hidden program menu in a lot of Miele machines offers features which would be completely impossible or irrelevant for that machine.

There's a video on youtube where it shows that one can select a 2000 RPM spin on a W4842, but I don't believe the motor can even go that fast.

I find other things such as the "Top Load/Front Load" option a really good sign that they probably use the same controller logic on many different machines.

Although, in some ways, messing with those options makes me wonder how badly mis-set options could damage or destroy the machine. Or just render it non-fuctional, throwing all kinds of strange error codes...

I do like that Miele has given the customer at least some flexibility on what the machine can do, so if they want higher water levels in the rinses they can have them, I'm assuming by paying a tech $80 to come out to "fix" that. More money for Miele!

I think that having a large number of cycles is kind of deceptive. If one can manually select the wash time, water temperatures and spin speed, then the need for 60 different cycles goes away.

I personally prefer the "Manual Selection" approach over the Programmed cycle approach, even though the latter is easier.

mr wash can you tell me whether the W925/W9245 washing machine will have the PC UPDATE SOFTWARE and if so can I buy it from you.Im in cape Town SOUTH AFRICA

Sorry I don't know that and I can't sell anything as I am no Miele dealer. You have to speak to some local Miele dealer in Cape Town.
