This morning on KHNL TV news, the segment called "Does it Work?" tested a mini washer called the "Home Pride". The reporter didn't really like the machine (He overloaded it too!). At the end of the segment he said you could see the report again at KHNL.com but it was not there when I got to the shop this morning-maybe later today...

Grrrrrrrr!

They still haven't posted the washer report! I'm sorta annoyed as Lyle Galderia said specifically at the end of the report that we could see it again on the website! Oh well-stay tuned....

Couldn't find it either

On the other hand, it really didn't matter--I spent WAAYYYY too much time today watching the other installments! That segment is totally addictive.

What a cool idea--I wish we had something like that around here. It's always nice to see that "As Seen On TV!!" stuff "As Seen In Real Life!!". Often, there's quite a difference.

Gimme a break...

I noticed three things here:

1. Isn't Lyle a little "big" to be putting all that in one load, regardless of the claim? Way overloaded indeed...

2. Not only was this machine overloaded, it was underfilled. The water appeared to be at least 2 inches below the water level line, especially after the slacks were removed! Also...I think even an ordinary person would notice that you need to "cover the load" and add more water.

3. You can set the motor on your countertop next to the sink! No need to be walking back and forth! And the bucket is really not that heavy when full.

My TechnoSonic Mini Washer (similar to this except the impeller reverses, has 1 dial, and the bucket and motor base are square; shown here washing) has no problem with cleaning and comes in really handy for prewashing or for very small loads. These machines move the clothes around just fine provided that you load and fill them properly...I honestly don't see the "difficulty" involved!

As soon as I saw it in the clip

I thought it was my old Waring Ice Cream Maker, same size, same shape base, cept the waring has a real paddle/agitator inside to stir the ice cream... got me thinking.

Someone should write to the TV station and tell them they overloaded & underwatered the machine. Offer to go in and show them how to do it right.

I think what's up is people in the USA are accustomed to think that "washer" implies "operate it the same way as you operate your full-size, fully-automatic machine." Anything different requires a learning curve, which there's no time for when doing a quick TV spot.

I loved those segments....

I loved those "Does It Work" segments. I think I watched most all of them. Thanks for listing those for us!
I agree that he didn't put in enough water. Maybe he should have weighed his clothes before putting them in...... He stuffed an awful lot in the poor mini...

Probably on one of the best saving graces in life that allows us to live with ourselves is that we don't see ourselves as others more realistically do....

IIRC wasn't this reporter (and his clothing, natch) rather oversized?

Oversized

Yikes, I forgot how hung up mainland people are about weight! I'm sure Lyle Galderia would not be able to get a TV job anywhere but Hawai'i. Here, you can be fat and still be considered a "sexy" person-no one cares. I find this attitude refreshing. Its ok to be well fed on the Islands

Counting Carbs Hawaiian style
One order french fries
Two scoops potato-mac salad
Three scoops rice

They should have found some smaller clothes for that washer though.
