Lately it seems I've been into mixers. It's funny as there are none to be found in thrift stores.

Last summer I found an avocado Sunbeam 6 speed new in box and a few of the beige an brown 3 speeds, but didn't get them. Wish I had now. LOL

I have to guiltily admit, I like the look of the NEW Sunbeam handheld Mixmasters, and like that they still call the power boost switch "Boost of Power".

I used a newer Sunbeam Mixmaster stand mixer at a church gathering to make mashed potatoes. I thought it did a pretty good job for a new mixer.

But I'm all about vintage. Just wish there were more vintage appliances out there to find.

They're out there...

Vintage stand and hand mixers do still turn up when you least expect them to!  I've been noticing that thrift stores (Salvation Army & Goodwill for example) seem to shun older appliances.   However, if you invest a little time, garage & estate sales are still good hunting grounds.

And...if you have a specific model you are looking for let me know. I have LOTS of duplicate & triplicate models in the museum!!

I still have my KitchenAid hand mixer that was one of the earlier ones.  I purchased it around 1986 or 1987.  It's up in the cabinet above the washer.  It suffered from the fail of the mechanism that holds the beaters in locked position.  From what I've read this was a common problem and the part has been NLA for a long time.  I still miss having a hand mixer although I cannot justify one given I have the 4C Kelly sent me as well as my Pro600--both sitting on the counter along with my Subeam LeChef and Oskar food processors.  I did discover last weekend the 3 quart CrockPot I got Christmas 1975 gave up the ghost, last time I used it was Super Bowl Sunday.  Now down to just 1 CrockPot.

I went to Restore and Goodwill today. Restore had not much. Goodwill had an avocado Sunbeam Mixmaster 3 speed which I was excited to find, but no beaters. There was also a Black and Decker which looked alot like an early 80s GE, and a very similar unit next to it labeled Farberware.

They had a Kitchenaid hand mixer also, but none of them had beaters, except for the Black and Decker and it only had one! Boo.

There are a couple estate sales tomorrow, maybe I will find something. Sometimes I wish the estate sales didn't start on Thursday, I imagine they are very picked over by Saturday...
