Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Eddie, thanks for posting this; you got my blood going at least this morning. Yeah, this has got to be one of the last GE Top Loading portables made. This was made in the early 70's when they switched to their "celery and avocado" color scheme, which I wouldn't have found so objectionable had they not paired it with lame spray arms above obnoxiously loud motor/pumps. We had a built-in version of this machine and it drove my Mother, a loyal GE stockholder, to go and buy a KitchenAid KDC-17a. I'm tempted even now, because I've developped a fetish for top-loading dishwashers. As John LeFever says, "they're great for washing parts".

LATE 60s- EARLY 70s GE TOP LOADING DWs

These machines were noisy but they really threw a lot of water around and cleaned much better than the first GE wash arm machines from 1962-1966. Like most DWs from this period you can count on them using at least 10 - 16 gallons a load. The neat thing about GE DW from 1967 on is you can install the new quieter motor and pump assembly in them which also makes the use only about 2 amps instead almost 6 amps as the original motors did.
