Boy was I surprised when I got the mail the other day and there was a Montgomery Ward catalogue in it. It was about 40 pages and had home decorating merchandise along with some small appliances. I thought the whole name had gone away. Looks like they are just doing catalogue sales now, unless there are some stores still open in the country. Anyone else get these? I wonder if Sears is going to get into this also as they loose ground and stores.

Nope, it's a new company that is trying to cash in on the history of the original. The original chain was liquidated back in 2001.

Actually, the company that tried to resurrect Wards has been around quite some time but they too failed to make a go of Montgomery Wards as a catalog and internet seller. Eventually Swiss Colony (of the Swiss Colony Gift Basket Fame) bought Wards and is now the company behind the latest version of Wards. So this makes the third go around for the company.

Italian Swiss Colony?

I'm sure it's not, but it would be fitting.  Back in my young partying days, that jug wine was the only brand that would give me a major headache the next morning.

That's exactly who owns the Montgomery Ward name & rights to it. They are now known as Colony Brands. I'm sure you could find some cheese & sausage gift baskets on the MW website!

Back in the late 80's Swiss Colony began to close their mall locations and concentrated on online and catalog sales. So they have experience in this area. They also own the Home Visions brand of home furniture too.

Back in the 70's, Montgomery Ward was owned by Mobil Oil.
