Met up with Al last weekend to pick up another few classic finds for everyone to share @ The Emporium. A rainy day in Cumbria didnt dampen our enthusiasm as we stepped into a vintage timewarp from the early 70`s. This was a newbuild house early 70`s high above the town was situated in a close of 8 detached tall roofed houses with tree filled gardens. The original owners stayed until present day and the now new owner was busy transforming it into a modern home for his family....
Here are the first pics straight from the cars..Presenting the Hotpoint 1504 top loader from 1971 and the Hoover black paneled Superjet dishwasher with spinning basket !!

The Hotpoint 1504 was first introduced in September 1969 and had the first "Timeline" a red line indicator used with wash / programme selection to indicate wash progress.

I first saw this model as a kid visiting my friend whose parents ran a large pub and restaurant. This was the work and family washer, situated in an upstairs room the tall back could be seen from the roadway outside, (at eye level from the school bus ha ha ) the waste pipe used to billow steam from all the hotwashes as it hit the drain on cold days.
It also had a "Bio" or powders switch which made any programme COLD fill and took advantage of the new range of biological detergents such as Ariel....
A two position SPIN selector was for a long Cottons spin @ 1050rpm and a shorter spin for delicate fabrics. A 3 position LOAD LEVEL gave you options for Small Medium or Large capacity which was rated at 11lbs of dry clothing.
Serial Plate = the all original metal stamped plates of the era, made by British Domestic Appliances , head office in Peterborough - the machine was made in Llandudno Junction, North Wales - the original factory of Hotpoint Laundry Appliances
Washing instructions under the lid, the original 7 wash programmes, as based on the HLCC (The Home Laundering and Consultative Council of the UK) you can see why we still refer to a wash by numbers, so for the maiden washout we used a Number 2 - hot 60d cotton vigerous wash, 2 rinses and fast spin.
Underneath view, this is the view after 47 yrs of use, a metal rigid baseframe and tripod stand hold the first of the newstyle polypropelene outer tubs.
The inner tub is made of Vitreous Enamel coated steel , this one has a nice flecked speckles of white on dark blue background, spin holes seen clearly with the back off and daylight shining through !!
And sooo, now to start on the bombsite from the last mini meet ha ha (you know who you are !!) and fit in and moove around a few weshers..we can see how its easy to run out of space, it appears we are NOT following Uni`s One In One Out Rule....
Alistair with the maiden washload, a number 2 wash, Cottons Hot, vigerous wash, bio switch selected, took 1.5 hrs from very cold, then 1 static rinse, 1 spray rinse and a final deep rinse topped off with a 1050rpm long spin.
