Most Scary Twlight Zone Episode Ever!

"Time Enough At Last".

Wasn't creepy to me, but rather sad and of course a moral tale of being careful what one wished for.....

Twlight Zone seemed to have many episodes dealing death and or ghosts. There is the one where the door to door salesman meets death on the street, then prevents him from taking a little girl's life, but in the end he himself goes "up there".

Twilight Zone &....

Outer Limits- both scared my sister N myself pretty well- Probably "The Bewitchin Pool" which was about the time our Mom & Dad could have been both parents in that one! They split soon after- Outer Limits...hmmmm - a toss up beteen "A Feasibility Study", & "The Galaxy Being" We both loved recreating the role of Ralph Cashman dragging through the street moaning for his wife- & made the voice of the "Galaxy Being" by talking through the Electrolux hose..

"Night Call" was filmed in 1964, find it rather hard to believe that even a remote New England town such as "London Flats" was still using operator assisted phone service. Tought by then all of AT&T's service had been converted to direct dial.

Not by a longshot. I was a lineman for PacTel from 1979-1983 and operator-assisted calls were still very common.

"The Galaxy Being"

Epic.

I always wondered how they achieved that stunning gooey effect for the Galaxy Being:

Anyone remeber 'Kolchak: The Night Stalker'?

That series was perfect watching on a rainy night, with the wind howling outside, smores and hot chocolate.

The creepiest TZ episode for me, that still sticks in my mind, was 'Nightmare at 20,000 Feet' with William Shatner. Out of all the episodes this one gave me the biggest goosebumps.

Oh Yes!!!!!

Terror at 20,000 feet I saw when it first came on I could hardly sleep that night.But I always watched every episode of TZ.Never missed a one.I lived at my grandparents my mother had just passed away at 28,and I was never really afraid after that. I used to spend weekends at the funeral home on Friday nights and watch the show alot of times alone and I learned then that dead people wont hurt you.My dad was an undertaker.He would be out on ambulance calls and I would be there alone.Sometimes with the young apprintices that slept upstairs with me,so we would watch TZ and horror films at night on the local station 13.

The scariest:

Cousins and friends, we all watched together. The most creeped out we got was when a lady underwent several operations to make her face more beautiful. This was her very last chance at being beautiful. Throughout the show the camera focused on her bandaged head as she hoped and pined for beauty. Other faces were only shown in shadow. Then came the unveiling as the layers and layers of bandages were unwrapped. I remember how cool it was that they filmed the unwrapping form her point of view. Slowly the darkness gave way to light.

Last layer off, she's gorgeous. They show her a mirror, and she starts shrieking. Immediate cut to hideous pig-faced people and we all start shrieking right along with her. It was monumental. Brilliant. We went crazy in delightful horror.

My favorite is the Agnes Moorhead episode where the alien robots in the attic turn out to be from NASA. Very scary too with all the knife work, screeching and sound torture.

Nighty-night. Sleep tight. Don't let the demons bite.

When I was a kid, the scariest TW for me was "The Monsters Are On Maple Street", which demonstrated how mass hysteria can effect people. I was scared for weeks afterwards!

My brother and I used to tell that to each other when we were kids after seeing that episode for the first time, probably part of some sort of dare. We loved TZ.

The episode you mentioned "Time Enough At Last", is this where Burgess Meredith survives a nuclear war (he was in a bank vault) and discover a library with lots and lots of books? However, Burgess steps on his glasses leaving him blind as a bat and unable to read a word. Talk about bad luck

Robert, Thank you for reminding me about The Bewitchin' Pool, a great piece of escapist fiction and probably the answer to prayers for many abused children.

Rod Serling was a great writer with a strong moral streak which made the episodes dealing with prejudice, the Holocaust and crime so strong in their message. When I see videos of groups spreading hate and intolerance, I am reminded of the episode "He's Alive" where Hitler's ghost comes back to stir up hate. At the same time the stories could be very comforting when dealing with the concept of the olam ha-bah, the world to come where we go after this life ends. Others, like the story of the actress with the scarab who keeps sucking the life out of people were not as clear cut about the perpetrator, but clearly showed what happens to those who allow beauty to blind their eyes and minds to evil.

As a kid I had the worst crush on Lee Philips. He did another great TZ episode called "Passage on the Lady Anne".
