Finally found something at LL Bean that fills the bill. It is USA made from pine and screwed and braced together. Whilst not the strongest wood for strength, it holds my 200+ lb carcass just fine. It shipped from Georgia so I assume Bean contracted with a local outfit there to produce them as ordered. It took about a month for it to come in.

Looks nice, Ben. I've been thinking about a similar bench for my place. How much did it cost and did it arrive assembled?

it was 199 + free shipping and yes, fully assembled. Packed very nicely too, nary a dent or scratch. Came UPS ground from GA.

If you need something to sit on to make it easier to put on shoes and vice versa, this is a nice addition to have.

Hell, for that money, there should be somebody to tie your shoes to save you from bending over. I convert all lace up shoes to slip ons so I don't need a bench, but I could use this nifty reversible bench I bought years ago that you can use either for sitting or kneeling in the garden. A really great feature of it is that when it is in the kneeling position the supports/legs are up so that they can be used to brace against to raise yourself with your arms and upper body.
