Hello folks,
I've been a member if this site for a little while now , but have always been a bit of a Voyeur because I never had a vintage washer of my own. That has all changed now though. I've managed to grab a hoovermatic 3334 bargain from eBay and I'm chuffed to bits.
I've given it a quick dry run and all seems well, except the drain valve is a little stif.
I'll try and get some pics up soon , but in the mean time has any one any tips on restoring one of these babies? Is there anything to look out for? Does anyone have a scanned version of the manual ?
Any help or advice would be gratefully received .
Until then I'm off to tinker with my new twinnie.
All the best
Alex

3334

Welcome to AW Alex and also welcome to scrabbling about on your hands and knees and wet floors!

I got a 3334 last year (it has since been moved on to another collector) but you will find a lot of information in the linked thread below, particularly about the drain valve. Be prepared for the two hoses which go to this valve to be rock solid and accordingly prone to cracking and breaking if you have to remove the drain valve. The good news is that there is a suitable replacement available from Halfords - radiator hose that is sold by the metre.

Good luck with your new washer, they are fairly simple with not much to go wrong

Thanks

Hey Al,
Thanks for your quick response. The instructions are really helpful.
I'm really looking forward to getting it up and washing again.
And thanks for the halfords tip.

Test wash

So after a quick wet test. I found there were no major leaks. I decided to run a test wash on a dust sheet.
The heater works and the motor kicked in when it reached temperature. So far so good. Washed brilliantly. No problems when I span out the load, but when I tried to empty the wash tub nothing much happened. After a little tinkering it seems like I could do with a new tyre on the pump wheel, so again all went well but then the drain valve kind a jammed up a bit and water started to fill the spin can. No major drama, I eventually managed to drain the machine but it seems like I'm gonna need to service the drain valve or try and find a new one.
My question is does anyone have any advice on how to remove this part as all the screws are proper rusted an don't appear to have any heads on them?
