My ailing 15 :(

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">So my KDS-15 is having a little issue and I'm not sure I have a timer issue or maybe just a timer motor issue.  The timer was new in the box when I put it in about 6 months ago.  I run the machine about once a week or so.  It's not my daily driver.  I do realize of course that even though it was NIB it's still 50 years old.</span>

 

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">It will do odd things like:</span>

 

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">Full Cycle - It will send power to the soap dispenser.  The dispenser will open but it doesn't stop sending power.  It just keeps buzzing until I lift the handle, close it and restart the machine.  </span>

 

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">Sani Cycle - One time it kept filling for the last rinse until it overflowed.  I realize that's two issues.  I haven't attempted a fix of the overflow yet but the timer should have closed the water valve and did not.</span>

 

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">Sani Cycle - Today it filled for the last rinse and stopped.  The Red Sani light came on but the heater did not so it just sat there.  I flipped the handle and pressed the button.  I could then hear the sizzle of the water heating and then it completed as normal.</span>

 

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">What do you all think?  Timer?  Timer motor?  It's really too bad, this machine is really nice and does a beautiful job.  </span>

Sorry I cant help with your DW issue. But would like to ask where you got those plates? I really like them.

Program switch??

Ralph, even though the timer may be 50 years old, it seems unlikely that the timer motor contacts would be bad since they would carry so little current that they would burn or stick.

I think the program switch may be hanging up especially that you lift the handle and restart the machine and it works fine. The switches did have some lubricant inside of it and I would bet it has dried out. If all the contacts don't meet inside of it, certain components can stop working and maybe there is a portion of it that controls the timer motor since it will do a rapid advance during the r/h and u/u cycles.

Take off the control panel and check the reset wafers that the handle actuate and make sure they move smoothly and are not broken. And then go from there.

Or, put the old timer in and see if the problem is still there. That would definitely rule out the timer as the culprit.

P.S. I like the plates too and that would probably qualify as a BobLoad with all that you have stuffed in there.

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">Steve, WOW I never would have thought of the Program Switch.  I will check that out.  I guess I didn't realize the PS affected so many of the components.  I would have been surprised if the Timer was bad after such a short time but given the age I assumed that was the issue.  Thanks Steve!!</span>

Malfunctioning KDS-15

You certainly may have program switch problems, but it also sounds like there may be other problems as well. Don't overlook the door switch in the door, also broken and shorted wires in the door hinge area. Do fix or replace the over-flow pressure switch and what is the condition of the inlet valve ?, it could be sticking open at times.

 

These are fairly simple and easy to repair machines and there are still lots of parts out there for them, we still have some new parts and lots of good used parts for most KD DWs 15 and forward.
