Thanks to a few members here, I now have my dream washer/dryer set doing laundry at home!

I think the washer has been owned by a few club members. I got it from Ben (Swestoyz). I got the Filtrator dryer from John (Combo52).

I have some some work on the washer and it works now. But I still need to find a few things for it.

If somebody happens to have the bright trim that goes on the edges of the cabinet, I'd really like finding that. I also would like to have to get a lid for it (one without window would be ok). So far, I have replaced the upper spin bearing but I'd like to find the lower spin bearing too (it's not noisy at the moment but...).  Everything works on it, including the dispensers.  For the dryer, I'd be happy if I could get a sprinkler nozzle as it's missing from it.

Philp, first post, second pic: BREATH-TAKING!

Right out of the future. You certainly robot. (From "I, robot" by Isaac Assimov, now pirated by the admen.)

Or a deep space Nebula. So beautiful.

How I love this, and a dream machine to boot. Awesome.

They look great next to the Control Tower, too... LOL

I am so glad that you were able to get the washer going so quickly - congratulations!!

I didn't expect to get the dryer when I went to visit John last month. Then Paul got the washer for me when he visited Ben in his road trip. I was really lucky to have Paul and Chris who accepted to bring it back for me at the back of their car as shipping it here would have been cost-prohibitive! I was lucky because Paul and Chris did it even if it meant they had to hear that thing rattling at the back of their wagon for half of their trip, also taking the space that otherwise could have been used to bring another appliance for Paul!

A big thanks again!  And thanks to John and Ben too! Together, you really helped me to realize a dream that I didn't expect to come true!

1966 Frigidaire Custom Imperials

WOW Phil I am glad that set came together for you, the dryer looks much happier sitting next to its matching washer than it did at our warehouse sitting next to the 66 Turquoise CI pair, the dryer was always wishing it was colored also LOL.

Did you mention that that this is the rare Filtrater version of this dryer ?, when you consider that there were vented electric and gas versions of this dryer along with the Filtrater and that you could get these washers and dryers in five different colors AND then consider the washer was available in suds and non-suds versions it meant that the Frigidaire distributor had to stock 25 machines to have the ONE that a customer wanted to buy. Today if you take Speed Queens entire home laundry lineup these are only 20 different washers and dryers variations available.

Chuck,

Yes it's the one with the sprinkler.

John,

That's probably why in Canada we had much fewer models starting in 1965. That year, you couldn't get Custom Imperials anymore. You couldn't get the WIA model either and the suds saver was only available in the Custom Deluxe washer (not the same as in the US as we only had one Custom Deluxe model with the lighted timer dial, no WCDA models). Frigidaire didn't offer gas dryers here either. Strangely, the TOL dryer in Canada was the DIFC-65 which was an Imperial model. It wasn't available in the regular vented version while in the US, you couldn't get the Filtrator in the Imperial series that year!

Here's the 1965 US lineup (I think Ken originally posted this page). Notice that the (P) and (R) are for the models available with Porcelain cabinets and suds-Return.

Jon...

We can surely help find that Apex set for you. I'll start by saying that I know where the washer is. Either in Minneapolis or Signal Hill but you MIGHT just have a fight on your hands as the current owners seem... Attached... LOL!

Phil, that is just a stunning set. Minty condition and just perfect to look at in the night. Do we get videos? They say that when a AW member finds a dream set, an angel gets her terquoise kitchen. That or everyone else gets kinda jealous... I know I am!

Now, what we had in Canada in 1965.

Notice that we couldn't get a Rapidry washer matched to a vented dryer in 1965! That changed soon after that as vented "Imperial" dryers were reintroduced after a two-years absence in the 1967 "L" line and the Filtrators were discontinued in the 1968 "N" line.

The black band with "Electric" written on it suggests that there might be other views showing gas versions too but there there were none!

Andrew, I have to make a video of it.

Ben thanks so much for offering the washer to me!   Have you noticed a subtle change on the control panel?

Here's a before shot:
