I've had these slides for eons and finally I remembered to ask Phil to scan them into jpeg images for me!  They are classic - it's so cool to be able to step back into time with them.  The refrigerator is a 1957 GE 'Deluxe' and the range is a 1957 Canadian Frigidaire 'Super' model.

The photos were taken at my parent's apartment in Ile-Bizard, Québec - I believe they were taken at Thanksgiving (October here in Canada) but they could also have been taken at Christmas 1957.   The woman in the photo is my maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Cann.  My parents made great efforts to bring her over from her home in Mansfield, England regular so that us kids (myself and my estranged brother) would have a chance to get to know her.

The appliances moved from Ile-Bizard to Beaconsfield to Hudson to Pointe-Claire; they were replaced by a matched Harvest Gold Baycrest range and refrigerator in 1974 when we lived in our second house in Pointe-Claire.  But I learned how to cook on that old Super range and I also learned how to do some basic repairs like replacing/rewiring Radiantubes!! The refrigerator became the bar refrigerator and the range was stored in the garage.  In 1985, the range was moved to our country place in the Eastern Townships (the house was robbed and the thieves took the 1960s GE built-in oven and cook top along with the solid oak kitchen cabinets my parents had installed in 1980!).   In 1989, when I bought my first house, I inherited the refrigerator and used it in my kitchen.  I abandoned the fridge in 1994 when I moved in with Hubby and my house got rented out.  The *%#$ tenants threw it out...

I wish I could have been there in person in these photos!

Oh wow Paul, these are great! It really is nice treat to be able to look back in time with family photos. We live in a society today where we are easily able to photograph everything with little cost. Back then, shooting a roll of film, developing it, and archiving the photos took work and money!

Within the last year, I found the Deluxe version of your parent's '57 Super! Mark (Kenmore71) and I did some work to it a few weeks ago (replaced the speed heat burner and switch, and did some other TLC), and I plan to use it this winter.

Sorry to hear that the family fridge was thrown out after all of those years of service!

Ben that range looks amazing!  Does the oven thermostat 'clunk' when it cycles on or off?  I remember that very fondly about that ol' Super

Lawrence, my grandma was thrilled by the 'modern conveniences' that she saw added to our homes over the years. She loved to watch the Mixmaster bowl (a model 7) turn as well as a roast rotating on the Roto-Broil table-top rotisserie.  And I guess I get this from her - she would sit and watch our Viking dishwasher run through the entire cycle... LOL

Paul, do you know who was taking the pics? It's funny how the photographer didn't seem to care showing your grandmother's face, which is unusual! At least, we have a good view of the appliances!

Phil, it had to be my father taking the pictures.  He had a pretty nice camera setup in those days but he maybe wasn't the next Ansell Adams... LOL

I'll reserve all commentary about cutting of the head of one's mother-in-law visiting from the UK until tonight...

cool pics Paul

I love how your Nana is in high heels and dress cooking dinner -just like the "mom" in the GE MM article!

Looks like the turkey came out good.

Interesting to see what was kept in the fridge, not much space there like today's Sub Zero's. But the eggs are neatly stocked to 2 dozen and the "man's" beer is all lined up on the door, all chilled for a quick one after mowing the lawn- Very Canadian !

funny you posting this I just got up this am and want to dig into my family slides and digitize them so I can FB them.
