My first Minneapolis estate sale find!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Nice older Lady Kenmore! Great find, and it looks to be in very good condition. Now we know why Robert gave away his Filtrator! To make room for this Harvest Gold Lady K! Great choice Robert! (ducking and running) <:

And someone please explain to me why you need a "SPIN O

Ken, if you will notice on the timer dial just has a w r s on each cycle. There's acutally no designation of what the cycle is, to the uneducated user/eye. Remember, on this machine, you simply pushed a major cycle button, pulled out the timerr knob and rotated it until the knob stopped and you pushed in the timer knob to start the machine. The actual cycle sequence on the dial was enzyme soak, pre-wash, normal, perm press, and knit/sdelicate. Spin only was for spinning out stuff maybe handwashed or dripping wet from the pool or something. You pushed the spin only button and rotated the timer until the dial stopped and pushed it in. The stop point was the last 4 minutes of spin on the nornmal cycle.; If you put it on the increment before that, then you'd have the 4 spray rinses while it spun.

Ken:

The way presented is best; for SEARS' till, that is!

This way one can say it is pre-programmed and intelligent and one can charge a bundle for the "conveneince" If you know your fabrics, it "does the thinking for you".

For the rest of the world a simple chart above the machine on the wall or a cabinet will do.

Whites= > hot with bleach, rinse twice. Normal cycle
Darks => warm or cold NO BLEACH. Normal cycle
Delicates= > slow speed.
Peamanant Press => Uee this cycle if line drying, otherwise see above.

I know, I know it's extremely difficult...

(ducks and runs!)

Fun machine but value-added ("I NEED these features") is purely in one's head. N'est-ce pas?

As I already mentioned Jed - I'm only a little jealous, but not completely ;-)

Very glad the machine turned out to be so mint, and required almost no work to get it up and running! Remember - you don't need to commit to a Lady for life :D

Such a great washer, but the agitator is so big you loose so much capacity. With mine, I found that I got the best results when the agitator is dialed back to "medium-HI" so that the extended fins are just to the edge of the skirt. Congrats!

Very nice machine Jed. Love the white agitator and the tub gleams like new. I'm assuming there is room (and probably the mounting points) inside the control panel to add the fluorescent light.

Can't forget this picture on taken Saturday afternoon right after we got home from picking up the washer from the estate sale. Here's one happy Jed :)

That is very nice!

I know you're going to be very happy with this machine. It is so similar to mine (and in a LOT better shape). The light bulbs are still readily available and you should have no problem finding one. By the way, the lights this machine use are rather bright which is nice.

Gotta love the "tawny gold"!

Unimatic 1140 and Tuthill....... About The 1969-71 Harvest G

My My.....

What I am wondering is how come all of the cool washers seem to be located in either California or Minnesota???

Unimatic1140..... I still remember when you found that brand new 1957 Kenmore last year. You still have that machine???

And to Jed..... that is a great find that you have there. Never before did I ever see a 1971 Lady Kenmore in THAT great of shape. I could tell that the machine was in great shape just by looking at the cabinet in the first photo (no speck of dirt or rust NO WHERE), and how tightly put together the control panel tended to be all the way to the shot that you have provided to that gleaming white tub and that new looking Vari-Flex Agitator. The only thing you have to do is put a fluorescent bulb in at the top of the console to light up the console when you flip open that console cover. But other than that, no restoration needs to be done to this machine.

When I watched the videos you have provided for this machine, I noted that the roll over was awesome as well. What did you have your agitator set to?? By comparison, when I was checking out Jons' Model 900 (or is it a Model 800.5) last month, I didn't see a lot of rollover when he was showing off his machine. Did you two use different agitator settngs??? Or did you wash a smaller load in your machine than Jons' did in his machine???

Again..... you got a great catch there, Jed. I know you're going to enjoy playing with this machine.

Enjoy your new 71' Lady.

Jons1077...... About your 1970 Kenmore Model 900 (or Model 8

Yep..... both your machines are similiar. It is worth knowing that your machine was also available in 1971. The only thing they did was change the control panel of the matching dryer.
