My Hotpoint 9534W!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Mike,
it might interest you to know that your 9571 was exclusive to Rumbelows and was introduced in October 1985. Apparently very similar to the 95492 but with facia button door release.

As much as I love the Zanussi for being built like a tank, I did miss the nice motor sounds of Hotpoint and Hoover. The Z9191T is an absolute pig to move - the Hotpoint seems quite light in comparison.

Darren,
the 9524 didn't have the spin slider, it was simply the 800rpm version of my 9534. The 9531 and 9533 Currys exclusive had the spin slider. Your picture shows the 9540 which has programmes 1 - 9, with 7 being included on the cotton cycle.

The 95620, 9540, 9544 etc series of machines used a thermistor rather than thermostats and used an entirely different timer. They were the superior version of the 9534 and slightly less common.

Then, of course there were the Microtronics of which I haven't a clue because i've never come across one!

Oh how all these Hotpoint pics make me want to use our new toy so much, but way too noisy for tonights wash which will be going on in a minute,

No doubt be woken up at 1am when the Indes(h)it rumbles into the fast/slow/fast/cant make up its sodding mind what speed but supposed to be 1000 has a knackered motor at 7 months old/fast/slow spin of a 95deg whites wash all the same though. Would rather be woken up though at 23.45 though by the Hottie LOL!!!

Still, if I want my whites on the line before I go to work at 5.30am it will have to do.

Fantastic pics I must say y'all!

Just the thing needed to cheer us all up while the weather decides what it is doing LOL!!!

Paul,
I purely stuck that one up to show the spin slider models, my best friend had the 9540 & my mums best friend had the 9545! which i've attached! I always remember when she washed some bathmatts and the machine moved bloomin loads. That was always terrifying when our 9534 launched forwards..That and the knackered bearings sounding like stones slamming about! lol Great machines.

Darren

I've heard people saying the 95 series suffered alot of bearing troubles. Indeed, I knew some people who seemed to have theirs replaced every couple of years, yet on others the bearings would last the life of the machine. It's just the luck of the draw I guess.

HOTPOINT WASHER DRYER

My Nan had the 9901, the facia was white though, not brown. The machine was my aunties when she first married in 87 and it was later passed onto my Nan to replace a Hotpoint Twin Tub. It was a great machine, although very loud...lol. The wash cycle was quick but good and the dryer was great.. At the time, my mum had a Hoover washer dryer, which was great at washing, but took ages compared to the Hotpoint, but the dryer was s*^t!! When I first moved into My house in 2000, I bought a second hand 9534 (didnt want a washer/dryer) same as the pics in this thread...didnt last long though, much to my disappointment!! Today I have a "modern" Hotpoint... not the same at all!!

Hi & Welcome to the club jonb! This is a great place! I'm sure you'll love it! Sorry to hear your 9534 didn't last you long. We got 12 years out of ours, washing for 6 sometimes 8 people. My dads buisiness partner had the same model in polar and when it died for the last time they replaced it. They gave it to us for a donor machine. When i took the back off all that had happened was the belt had slipped. I was only young then before i got adventurous fixing things, so i diagnosed it but didn't know how to fix it lol.

Lol I don't know about anyone else but i always wanted what i couldn't have! When i was a kid i had the hotpoints and always wanted a hoover electron or logic. Then when i didn't have a hotpoint. i wanted a hotpoint!! lol. I finally got a hoover in the end, it too me a good 15years though lol.

Darren.

I'm was exactly like that as well Darren lol!! When we had the Bendix Homelaundry Center w/d which was an amazing machine, I wanted one of the new 6kg Hotpoints! God knows why, the Bendix lasted almost 15 years, and I didnt realise how great the Bendix was until in 98 when we got the Bosch Maxx! You can just imagine the comparision hehe!!

Talking of the spin slider thing! - They are tottaly amazing LOL! Ive never had a chance to play around with one on a great Hotpoint like in the pics above! :( But Ive noticed that you can do the same in the Hoover Vision I have LOL! The sound it makes when you make it speed up and down from 600-1600! Tottaly amazing! But I dont do it very often, I dont think the machine would be very happy with that LOL!!

Great Thread Guys!!!

Darren, thanks for the welcome mate.. I bought the 9534 from a local second hand shop as I was due to move in my first house and couldnt afford a new washer. It was supposed to be reconditioned but to be honest I think they did the machine more harm than good!! Should have realised something was wrong on the day the machine was delivered... they shut up shop on the same day and have never been seen since lol. Anyway after about a couple of months it went a bit strange, it started only tumbling in one direction and would only work on the number 5 programme...

Jon

Hi Jon,
Hmm i remember my neighbours old hotpoint i've forgot the number but attached a piccie:D It would only work on 2 programmes, i think they were both 60degrees, i kept telling her our repairman was cheap and could fix it for her but she was happy to insinerate everything on 60! lol!

Sounds like you were had there matey! Nothing more annoyin, when i got my first hoover newwave washerdryer "reconditioned" It went wrong on the 2nd load, the guy messed me about so i got the part and fitted it myself. i just wanted him to pay for it! lol.

So you have a wma hotpoint now? What do you think to it? I used 2 have a WMA62 which i liked, now have a WT960 & i don't like it. I hate the 20min cotton spin on both models! Bad balancing on the wt960!

Darren

I love hotpoints

My step brother has a 9530 Electronic 1000 plus from 1989, which i don't know what the difference is between the 9534 and the 9530 lol

I loved the way you could make it do a spin drain and make it spin with a machine full of water.

Brilliant Machines, last time i used it was in 2002, so haven't seen him in 6 years. My other step brother has a early 2000's hotpoint, with the power stream wash action

Hi Darren, yeah think I was well and truly stitched up on the 9534... I paid approx £85 for it the time as well. Not sure of the model number of the machine in the pic... looks like an older model with the rocker switches rather than push buttons. My nan's 9901 washer dryer kept going for nearly 20 years and I think she only had to have it repaired once. Was a great machine. My Grandad acutally left it in the house when he moved a few years ago so it could still well be going today for all I know. Ive got a WMA54 (Pic attached, sorry it isn't so good, had to use my mobile to take it). Ive had i for four years and it hasnt let me down once.. touch wood!! It can be a bit of a pain on balancing sometimes. This machine doesnt take 20mins on final spin though. My mum has the Ultima which she bought about 6 months ago... that takes 20mins on spin, it's very quiet though and spins fast, 1600 I think. I prefer older machines myself LOL...

Jon

Hi Jon,
Yes my neighbours one was a rocker switch model, i used it many times for her! lol & the neighbour previous had an electronic creda! That i used alot! Back in the days when you could be really friendly with your neighbours!!!

Nice pic of your machine! Good of you to post it! Thats not a bad quality pic! I've seen worse lol!

Your lucky then to get one of the machines that doesnt take an age to spin!!!

I was messin about pluggin machines in at work the other week when i was on my own & i span a WT741 which was 15mins n did an anticlockwise spin! I've only seen videos on youtube on an anticlockwise spinnin hotpoint so it was cool to see! lol.

Darren

Hi Darren,
It doesnt seem to take so long to spin, bear in mind there is no countdown timer on mine so im not 100% sure exactly how long it takes... I also use the Time Saver option nearly all the time so that may take time off the spin cycle.

I have just found a picture of my Nan's 9901 washer dryer and I have taken a snap of it with my mobile phone and have put it on to my computer hoping to post it but the quality if it is rubbish, you cant even see it properly!! I could do with a scanner really.

Hi Jon b
I had a wma 58 polar white, it was great except when it got out of balanced once in a blue moon!
The amazing thing is that unlike the new hotpoints it goes to ditribution speed during cotton cycles!
Now the machine is at a close family's home, good service!

Ahh yes the powerstream! I had 2 WMA62's the first one died of bearing failure that most of the first line did & hotpoint ran a replacement on the effected models when they went wrong!

The strange thing is, the first machine distributed and span clockwise, but the replacement powerstreamed anticlockwise & span clockwise!!!

Darren

Hi dyson2drums
Yeah mine goes upto distribution speed in the wash cycle as well, on cottons.. It does it quite alot actually, it is a good machine and ive never had a problem with it at all. It does go out of balance sometimes but seems to correct itself and manages to spin. Depends whats being washed, I generally tend to even the loads out anyway. My Mum has an Ultima and it doesnt do the distribute thing during the cycle, I have noticed however that it does do it just before draining for the start of the final spin. I prefer my Aquarius to my Mum's Ultima. I take it you have had a Dyson washing machine at some point, what was it like? Ive never seen one in action.. They have never been something that I have had an interest in, mainly due to the price that they used to sell for... way out of my league LOL..
Jon

Hi Jon
i've got videos on youtube.
just go on youtube and type in dyson washing machine, it is cro2 in white!
If you don't mind what is the model on the ultima?
thanks

Hi dyson2drums
Thanks, will check the vids out on youtube when I have time... Think the Ultima is a WT940?? Im going to my Mum's either tomorrow or Monday so will double check and confirm.
Jon

Darren

Mine does the powerstream anticlockwise during the wash and distributes and spins clockwise on rinse and spin..... should do some vids really....
