T'was an exciting day for me today when I hit the Goodwill on my way home. Usually they never have any vacs but I alway stop in just in case. There it was and I rushed right on over and grabbed it ever so excited a nice blue DAM power drive. Needs a little TLC but it's working well. I rushed to the till and out the door and almost forgot that I hadn't looked around the rest of the store so after putting the vac on the back seat back in I went. There I found this most lovely early to mid 50's Mirro Cooky-Pastry and Decorator set.. (their spelling of cooky not mine) complete with 13 dies, two guns, and 6 tips as well as the original instruction manual with recipes and another neat earlier book on How to Decorate a Cake.. it looks little used and the box is in great shape too... what can I say,,, coming soon to Ebay near you. Darn I also got a very nice Minolta 35mm underwater camera forgot to put it in the pic. All this for less than $20 YAY

Very nice Hoover DAM-Does it have the self-propelled feature?I have a similar machine in brown color-its self propelled transmission is shot.also missing the belt that drives it-motor runs though. Was given to me by the vac hospital out here. When I can get some parts from him-will "revive" it.

Pete, I am happy that you found one of the nicer looking models. I hated all of that harvest gold, orange and brown combination of colors. The avocado on Hoovers was a bit better if it was paired with a beige housing, but not if it was paired with the dung-brown. The blue DAM was, to me, the most attractive. My Floor-A-Matic is in the blue/gray combination. Until it seemed to have been entered in a demolition derby during the three years when it was lent to someone because it was not my main vac, I had a beautiful blue Hoover Convertible with headlight and blue vinyl bag.

That Mirro cookie press brings back memories, not all good.
Congrats on your good luck.
Tom

Nice DAM

No wonder I can't find anything these days, Pete's grabbing it all!
That DAM is US model U6039(-030) and ran from 1976-1979, the last power drive model. It was replaced by the U3101 Concept One which I believe you also have.
I've always liked that blue model myself
Congrats Pete!

Yup, it's the power drive model which is what I was looking for too. I have an orange/brown non propelled model as well which was graciously donated by Doug Smith in Moose Jaw. These do look much nicer in the blue and white. The drive belt is pretty sloppy so I'll have to stop in and get a couple of new ones.
The cookie press is already listed so there won't be any decorating going on around here. Have to support my habits somehow.

Pete, new member here but have been reading the threads for a long time. Great find on the DAM. I have the exact same one that I use everyday. Bought it at a thrift a couple years ago for $5. Needed a good cleaning and new belts, but otherwise in good shape. The only thing that I have found somewhat of a problem are genuine Hoover replacement belts. Brand new out of the package they have sort of a sticky feel to them. It must be the composition of them now. Doesn't seem to be a problem for the brushroll but, the powerdrive belt will break easily if I don't let it age for a while before installing. It sticks to the motor spindle and then snaps the next time I use it. I found that by letting the new belt air dry for a time that it isn't as prone to break. Anyway, just wanted to share.

Pete, Thanks for the welcome. Yes, they're at the front of the line and get the most use. Some I've adopted out to family due to not much room in my apartment, but they are my favorite. I've lived here all my life and now live just a couple miles from the main Hoover plant. I used to work across the interstate from the big industrial park plant and distribution center that Hoover had here before they started moving south. Sadly, it sat empty for a couple years and was sold last year and is being converted into of all things, a huge church. I guess the church had the money to buy it and wanted the visibility of being on I77.
I have friends that still work at Hoover and right now they're holding on. They were mostly in favor of the Whirlpool buyout but, what really happens to them remains to be seen.
Again, thanks.....Bill
