Hello, just wanted some advice on fixing my Miele La Perla or replacing it. Apparently the pump is leaking and I got a huge $ quote for the replacement ($650). Miele's authorized service tech (and Miele themselves) will only warranty the parts for 1 year, so I'm trying to decide if I fix it and keep it, or buy something new. I have not called Miele customer service, aside from with the service tech today to verify the age of the unit (am going to call them tomorrow to see if they will give me a $ break on the parts). I LOVE this dishwasher and really don't want to replace it, but for a 5 year old machine.... could this be the beginning of the money pit? What are your thoughts? I just went thru this same thing with mine. I called Miele and they told me that since it was my first service call on my LaPerla in the 5 years and 7 months of ownership that they will "good will" the parts. The pump alone would have cost me about $670 and they replaced the feed hoses to the upper and top arms. The total cost was just $190 and that was $110 to come and diagnose and $80 for labor. Methinks they had a major issue with the pump and hoses so thats why they gave me the parts for nothing. If they had charged me the outcome would have been much different I can tell ya because I would have replaced the machine. I do love mine but a Miele should last since one pays thru the nose for it. Give them a call and see what happens.

You would've paid BIG $$$ for this machine 5 years ago - I think it might be worth looking into repair. See if they will do the parts for free with just diagnosis/labour costs as mentioned above. If not, procure a replacement pump from another source or even try another repairman: Shopping around tends to pay quite a bit. $670 for a 1w pump (Okay, maybe its more, pun intended though!), some hoses and seals seems just a *tad* steep to me - how about you?
I'm sure anyone will admit that a Miele dishwasher is worth saving. There probably isn't anything around that is built as well or with as much regard as Miele. And if you choose to replace - it may pay to "make it vintage," with all these new regulation coming into place, newer stuff will likely be built cheaper and take longer to wash

Ouch. That's quite a bit of money for a pump & repair. I'd fuss at Miele for a while and if they refuse to help in any way (good will does go a long way retaining customers) then reevaluate. You can buy a very nice KitchenAid, Bosch, etc. for that amount of money.

Yeah it certainly is alot of money and the feed tubes were about $120 a piece since they have a sensor in them. If I had to pay for the parts too I would have said I can get another dishwasher for that price. The pump contains the heater, speed sensor, water pressure sensor, and water level sensor and the shutter assembly all in one. I will post a pic of it...it's rather compact and the seal between the sump and pump is a press fit. No clamps used at all.

The other thing is that more than likely a Fault code #68 popped up and the Waterproof system activated. When that happens the dishwasher will not run except for the drain pump. And as long as that float in the basepan senses water it will keep it running. I had to shut the control down and even then the dishwasher was still running so I had to unplug it. I will warn you it took 4 visits from the Miele Tech to get the job done and I was without a dishwasher for a month. They were good about not charging me until the repair was complete. The first visit they sent him out with the wrong pump so he got the numbers off the pump in the dishwasher and they had a newer model pump supercede the one I had in the machine. The 2nd trip he installed the pump but they sent him with the wrong pump/sump seal. So the 3rd visit he had the right one and then he put that together and the feed hoses for the middle and top arms where they connect to the pump let go and they peeled away from the main hoses so he had to order them since without a proper seal the hoses leaked and the dishwasher's alarm system was going off. Plus the pump wasnt getting up to pressure. Anyways the final 4th visit he had the hoses and they contain the soil optical sensors to let the machine know how dirty a load is. He put everything together again and it has been working like new. The new pump has a bit more water power I think and when pots and pans cycle is selected I thought the other pump could scrub the chrome off a truck, this one more so. I can actually hear the scouring of the water in the pots and pans. Good luck and let us know how you made out with them....

I would pay to have it fixed. I have a eight year old Miele Incognito dishwasher that is awesome and have not had a single problem. There product line and over all quality is better than anything else in the market today.

So.... When I called Miele customer service, they offered me a discount on the parts so I guess I'm going to get it fixed. Still not cheap, but I think it's better than buying something that I don't want.

Discount ?! Oh hell no I wouldn't take that....I think it depends on who you talk to there. I will check the email they sent me with the contact there that got me the goodwill parts.

After having my first Miele DW for 10 years without a problem(only replaced because updated the kitchen) and now having this one for 7 years I would only want to replace the machine with another TOL Miele. I would strongly consider fixing mine.
