My Multimatic washer finds it's other half at age 50!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

So very nice!

Congratulations on a very handsome pair. Always loved Frigidaires - but that has to be the coolest vintage they ever produced IMHO.

Super happy for you!

John

Thanks Brian!

I did a few tests on the dryer, installed a light bulb in the display like I did for the washer's cabinet but the dryer seems to work fine. The cabinet will need repainting as well as the washer and I'd like to have the porcelain redone on the top. Does someone know a good place to have porcelain redone?

Oh cool! Glad to hear that it works, Phil!!

When the weather gets better, we may have to organize a 'painting party'... I'd really like to get my 56 Whirlpool set repainted and there will be a 57 GE washer and the 51 Kenmore dryer to paint, too!

Todd, The 1964-67 Filtrators have holes there and I have seen a few regular dryers with them too.  I have seen something about their purpose in my documentation, I think it was to let air circulate in the control panel to avoid condensation.

My 1965 Filtrator (DCIF-65) has holes at the same place.

The picture below shows a DCIK (1966 Custom Imperial vented model) and it also has these holes under the control panel.

Phil

a stunning set and they are rare birds. I think  a 1964 washer with the multimatic trans is really rare. The factory closed in June-July for break and switched over to rollermatic transmissions so the remainder of 1964 was rollermatics. I saw a few years ago and all were rollermatics. The styling on these is so square, much more so than the rest of the run up to 1969. They really stand out.

Some videos of the washer Jon C. got for me from John L. in Beltsville.

I repaired the transmission and replaced the water bellows soon after I got it but I didn't connect water to it until a few days ago!

And the suds saver that now works, thanks to John L.!

Jon, did you get the email I sent you yesterday!?

Unfortunately, I have all kinds of Frigidaire washers (except the Pulsa-Matic which is a lot like a Multimatic) but none of the pre-1965 washers have their original agitators!

Congrats , Phil on the work completed and the pair look outstanding. You're rightfully proud of them - thanks for sharing all the vids and photos. The Maytags I own don't have a suds saver, but....would like to have that feature, one day.
