My new bicycle

You've all been such a great help with my early 70s WU600 dishwasher. Wanted to share a piuc of my "new" Sears Free Spirit Greenbriar 10 speed bike from the 70s. Was given to me in Nov of 2006, but I didn't need it until now. Replaced the tubes, one new tire, used the seat from my old bike, replaced the front brakes, added the grocery baskets from my old bike, greased and oiled it and it works like new. Will go with us on vaca to Vermont next week, then will go to the grocery store, post office, etc.

Feels good to rehab an old bike.

wow, that bike looks lot nicer than mines. i had my bike since christmas '99, but looks like shit right now eventhough it still run great.

I think a lot of people had them. It was the basic Sears model back when Sears was still THE place to go for everything. It won't win any races or beauty contests, but then, neither will I. Should be good basic transportation. I'll be one of those old guys with the gray beard and pony tail riding around on his old bike. Should get a bell for the handlebars.

Well, I can't take credit for it's looks. I'd guess it sat in a garage or basement for many years before it came to me via freecycle. It needs some touch up paint and such but will probably not get it.

"You can sit up straight." Definitely a plus. I'm definitely not the bicycle-shorts, bent-in- half, power-peddling racer. I'd be more comfortable biking with Jessica Fletcher than Lance Armstrong.

"How many MPG?" You know, it's a used vehicle so no window sticker with all that info ( no window either, come to think of it). I'll take it to the track today and get back to you on that.

The bike should come with a sticker that indicates how many calories per hour it burns.
